SANEM’s Selim Raihan wants govt to rethink mega projects

We need to gradually move away from this model of govt borrowing money for infrastructure projects.
1. Increase govt revenue by punishing tax dodgers and raising personal income tax rates on the wealthy (annual income over BDT 10 million)
2. Allow foreign and local private companies to build and operate infrastructure under the BOOT model

I recommend two things:

1) Sack Ghulam Mustafa as the finance minister
2) Employ @Destranator tor as the new Finance Minister.

Problem is not mega projects are being taken but the cost overrun and delays. Each of the mega project so far taken is crucial for our economy. Could we afford not to build Padma bridge? or Merto rail? All those powerplant or deep sea ports or rail-line? No. Infact, if we were India or Vietnam, these projects would have been built long time ago. We are actually late at initiating them due to our low revenue, low spending economic weakness.
