Sanctions on Iraq and Syria
'Soon the people of Iraq will neither receive any food (grain) nor any money.'" We asked, "Why would such a thing happen?" He replied, "Because of the non-Arabs" (i.e they will impose "sanctions"). He then said: "Soon the people of Sham(area of Syria/Palestine/Lebanon/Jordon) will neither receive any money nor grain." We asked as to why this would happen. He replied: "Because of the Romans (ie Christians)." He (Jabir) kept quiet for a while and then reported Allahs Messenger (peace be upon him) having said, "There would be a caliph in the last (period) of my Ummah who would freely give handfuls of wealth to the people without counting it." I said to Abu Nadhrah and Abu al-'Ala: "Do you mean 'Umar 'Abd al-Aziz?" They said: "No (he would be Imam Mahdi.)." ( Narrated by Abu Nadhrah from Jabir b. 'Abdulldh. Sahih Muslim, Book 41, No. 6961)
