Japanese Katana VS European Longsword - Samurai sword VS Knight Broadsword
:woot:

So what about a hand weapons/ martial arts thread? I thought there was one! I want bows and arrows in! Me took archery lessons for 1 yr :ashamed: It was that or fencing....Didnt go for fencing ...would like to try it now....I wanted to learn using broad sword never gave the Katana much thought....Did watch Kendo though but that is more like a "stick"...

Kendo (剣道 kendō?, lit. "way of the sword"), is a modern Japanese martial art, which descended from swordsmanship (kenjutsu) and uses bamboo swords (shinai) and protective armour (bōgu). Today, it is widely practiced within Japan and many other nations across the world.

Kendo is a physically and mentally challenging activity that combines martial arts practices and values with sport-like strenuous physical activity.

Dont forget Lady Snowblood (i think the japanese title is Shurayuki hime or something like that)

Also Sanjuro by Kurosawa

And a classic hit series in Japan, Zatoichi, the tale of the blind Samurai.

Takeshi Kitano did a remake in 2003, its so-so, worth a watch if you're a kitano fan, nothing beats the original series though.
