Global electronics giant Samsung will invest 2.4 billion U.S. dollars to build new battery and capacitor plants in northern China's Tianjin, according to local authorities.

The investment will be used to expand the power battery lines and set up a multi-layer ceramics capacitors (MLCC) factory for automotive electronics in the city, according to Tianjin Municipal government.

Samsung SDI, a storage battery maker, will invest 800 million U.S. dollars on the battery project which is expected to cover 100,000 square meters.

The battery will mainly be used on energy storage systems, electric cars and electric tools, according to the company.

Samsung Electro-Mechanics, an electronic component supplier, will build the MLCC factory that is expected to be completed in 2019 and start operation in 2020.

Tianjin is Samsung's major manufacturing base and investment destination outside the Republic of Korea. There are 10 Samsung affiliated companies in the municipality with an output value of 84 billion yuan (around 12 billion U.S. dollars).

This is where our friend @Viva_Viet becomes important. He needs to suck in what China no longer needs due to higher labor costs and environmental concerns.

Maybe some of these low end Chinese factories should go to allies like Pakistan, over potentially hostile neighbors like Vietnam. Building up Pakistan Economically, will make it a strong friend militarily if needed. Some work should be done to prevent environmental damage, but importing raw materials from Western Asia and Africa and processing them into mid level products fro further processing in China for international sales can make the corridor part of CPEC successful.

The companies that transfer from China to Vietnam are mainly foreign-capital enterprises, and Chinese companies rarely.
At present, Pakistan's main problem is the domestic security and infrastructure problems, these problems be improved in the future, there will be more firms to invest in Pakistan.

So, you think Vietnam would not be pleased if it had 2.4 billion in high-end investment in one of its cities?

Which one is better:

THAAD and no investment.

THAAD and investment.

In the end, China will not go into SK and topple their government. The only way is to put pressure and weaken the Koran commitment to the US.

I guess with the Korean Peace Process becoming more and more independent from the US whims is a strategic gain for China.

In the end, China does not want a puppet Korea, but an independent Korea.

How would you assess current domestic security and at what level of security do you consider Pakistan safe enough for more firms to start investing there? Secure industrial parks with military grade security can be put around large areas just outside of major cities. Close to rail and road infrastructure, and with a steady supply of Electricity, as well as laborer brought in by bus, there shouldn't be anything more then the economics of trade. Currently the European Market can be serviced from industrial parks in and around Gwadar with trans-shipment via Iran and Turkey. Rail and Road infrastructure can be built there. Is that what China plans to do with the 500,000 Chinese Workers in Gwadar?

Samsung has been investing less in Mobile dept
And this side of business has already shown profit

Samsung mobile phone Tianjin factory stopped production at the end of this month (12/2018). Samsung Electronics even canceled seven branches in China and turned into 26 offices, and subsequently laid off employees.

Synchronous with the closure of the mobile phone factory, Samsung plans to invest in power battery production lines and automotive MLCC (multi-layer ceramic capacitor) plants in Tianjin, with a new investment of 2.4 billion US dollars. This is only a "speculation on policy", follow trend of the China government's policy of developing electric cars. It is not too good.

Because Samsung phones are being slaughtered by competition. So, Samsung desires to have a place in the China's growing e-vehicle market. There, too, competition is no less. Other than China's own brands, there is LG and Panasonic.

CN just gave up "made in CN 2025", so Samsung, Apple can buy 51% Xiaomi, Huawei share and slaughter all CN competitor

-------'
China is preparing to replace its Made in China 2025 policy with a program designed to allow foreign companies greater participation in the Chinese economy, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Actually, in State Council legislation for 2019, all Made in China 2025 sectors (10 in total) are shown as priority areas for investment and support.

It is just that the name is dropped, the content stays.

So, it is not replacement, it is reconfiguration.

As for foreign investment, they are welcome. No wonder China is the largest global FDI recipient in 2019.

Samsung is one of them. Wouldn't you like quality investment in Vietnam. In the end, foreigners have to come, invest, spend money, and compete.

thats what u hope (the name is dropped, the content stays). ppl soon will see 51% Huawei share belong to US as CN can not stop US to buy Huawei now

Remember, these plant investments by Samsung are not there to help China but rather to carve out their our market share there. China need to focus more in R&D to strengthen their own high-tech sectors.
