It's taken less than 24 hours for Tendulkar to accumulate 79,124 followers on Twitter. And it's growing at the rate of almost 4500 per hour. Ashton Kutcher, who at 48 lakh is the most followed person, be warned - God has just started

If you add up all the runs scored by Sachin Tendulkar in Tests and ODIs, including his domestic season, it comes to 74531.
And on the first day that Tendulkar joined Twitter, with the account name sachin_rt, his followers have reached 74531 (that's only till 10.00 pm yesterday). Such was the craze that the number of followers were shooting up at the rate of almost 4500 per hour.
That easily outdid another twitter favourite Shah Rukh Khan who scooped up 23,333 followers only on the second day of his twitter entry.
And the man who convinced the Little Master to start the account, Atul Kasbekar, smiled knowingly. "Sachin has been a dear friend since 20 years and I had been trying to get him to set up a twitter account.
It was disturbing to find fake Tendulkars pretending to be him (on twitter)," Kasbekar told Mumbai Mirror. "You can impersonate anybody but not Tendulkar - it's not just cricket," he added.
Kasbekar, who also got Zaheer Khan to set up a twitter account said that the plan initially was to start the account on Tendulkar’s birthday last month.
“I had set up the account on April 21st and we had planned to start it on the day of his birthday (April 24). Because of the IPL and the injury to his finger, it was delayed,” said Kasbekar.
So while it was in the pipeline, it was the quintessential setting of a dinner with friends where Tendulkar finally decided to start the account.
“Yesterday, we were all having dinner at Vinod’s (Chopra) place. It was the perfect setting with friends chatting away. It was then that we decided to start the account.
We also decided that we should click some photos to establish that this was the real deal.
So we used his Blackberry to click photos and that’s the one you with the title - three more idiots,” said Kasbekar who has known him for a long time - since he first photographed the Little Master for a Bata ad twenty years ago.
But why this medium? “Tendulkar is a prankster. He’s a very sporting guy. But it’s impossible for him to walk down a street and get a coffee.
This medium is perfect for his fans to see the sense of humour that Tendulkar actually has,” said the ace-photographer. “Can you believe someone of Tendulkar’s stature putting up pictures of him sleeping or holding crabs. This is a terrific way for him to interact with people,” Kasbekar added.
“At the end of the day it doesn’t matter to Tendulkar whether he’s on twitter or not. But instead of letting people put words into his mouth, this forum allows him to say it directly. It’s his mouth piece,” said Kasbekar.
From wishing his team-mates good luck in their pursuit of the T20 World Championships to congratulating Virender Sehwag on the birth on his second son, Tendulkar has surely started his twitter account with a bang.
Ashton Kutcher who has the most number of followers at around 48 lakhs, better watch out. The god has just clicked.
