The budget is Taka 3000 crore which equate to somewhat under $1/2b. It's not just for the sat, but includes launch cost, construction of a number of base stations, consultancy, training and support plus running costs.

1 Taka = some 0.013 dollars (google), so it comes to around 39 crore dollars or 390 million.

But as you said this includes creation of basic infrastructure, training etc, dont think it's right to include these. In fact a large part of that cost probably goes towards creation of infra structure, which will be reusable for future projects.

Are you sure about that cost for a communication satellite. :O?? I'm totally surprised by ur quote, can you provide me with some links regarding Bangladesh satellite program. I really want to read about it now . Google didn't help me in it

You can't look at this in isolation, you need to long at what else is happening (building of the 5th largest data centre, expansion of the mobile com infrastructure, etc) What is the gov objectives? We have a top down and bottom up growth plan.

we all know the rapid expansion of garment jobs for essentially the unskilled population, but what do you do for the skilled educated population?

Bangladesh wants to rapidly expand the ICT and services sector, and to do that you need a very developed ICT infrastructure, hence the big spend on developing a national sat com system.

It is always hits and misses with foreign policy with our neighbours. In 2014 we offered disaster relief for Kashmir floods but you guys did not reciprocate but accepted the aid for floods in 2010.

Maybe it is the timing since you guys have already signed up with others.

Since our relations have become strained it would have been good if you guys reciprocated, but alas we live in a region jingoism triumphs over collective betterment of our society.

Well, we just agree that we have too much baggage to trust each other. It requires a statesman or able leaders in both our countries who can change the status quo. Just look at European Union, not too long ago they were fighting and killing each other and now they have one currency and visa less travel. Maybe it is the religion which is dividing us.
