Royal Saudi Air Force, Hawk and JAS 39 Gripen (30$)

Posted on: Mon, Aug 23, 2010

There is a talk at the Saudi Ministry of Defence and Aviation (MoDA) and the General Staff of the Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) about the necessity of acquiring a multi-role light combat aircraft. The following 330-word report sheds light on the subject and tells what options the Saudi MoDA and RSAF have in this regard. It also tells what about the option of making such an aircraft.

i think JF 17 is good for Saudi Arabis becoz it comes from reliable friend and if you buy one JAS 39 Gripen you can buy 2 JF 17 and JF 17 is as good as Gripen with similar firepower and at other hand Gripen made with help of Israeli Systems thats why most of Muslim Nations Discard it UAE too did and thats why Gripen is struggling in world market and PAF did also discarded it from their system of aquaring it

If you seriously think that the reason for Gripen's rejection in Arab air forces is simply due to Israel factor, then you must also understand that most of the American aircraft that Arab countries have in their fleet consist of many sub-systems and systems designed by Israeli nationals or engineers of Israeli origin (you will find them in considerable numbers in American big firms). By that logic, Arabs should be sticking to Russian and Chinese when it comes to acquiring combat aircraft.

Gripen's failure to beat F-16s is simply because of American arm-twisting of most countries to choose their products over Gripen. Almost all Arab countries barring a few are entirely dependent on Americans for most of their fancy equipment. This gives Americans terrific arm-twisting capabilities to further press their products into others' hands. It is a hidden industrial politics played between Swedes and American aerospace majors.

Regarding your jointly-developed aircraft with Chinese, I doubt that it would have matured to the level of Gripen. Kindly, check out its specifications above and see if your aircraft matches its specifications.

The thread's purpose is the same as its meaning: military multimedia. :)

One recently won best artwork in the Nato Tiger meet. They are pretty cool looking aircraft. I like the whole concept the Swedish have of being able to operate their aircraft from normal roads and they don't need Runways.

Gripen NG Decoy Decision Nears

Jul 21, 2010

FARNBOROUGH

Saab is continuing along the road to fully defining — and will soon make an important supplier decision on — its next-generation (NG) fighter’s self-protection suite.

The Gripen NG will have a fiber-optic towed decoy as a baseline subsystem to help defeat radar-guided missile threats. A towed decoy is only an option on the current model, but the supplier choice is pending for the subsystem on the NG, says Eddy de la Motte, a Gripen International program official.

Meanwhile, Saab is currently trying out different cockpit concepts for what the avionics setup should look like. That process also is expected to wrap up soon. Having completed two trial periods with the Gripen NG demonstrator, the aircraft will now go into a layup period to be modified into an avionics testbed. The aircraft is expected to return to flight next year, de la Motte says. The demonstrator so far has logged 175 flight hours.

In turn, Gripen officials are keeping a close watch on the international marketplace, where they are tracking 17 countries for potential sales opportunities. A couple more opportunities are expected to emerge this year.

But competition remains heated, with possible new entrants such as the Chinese-Pakistani JF-17. Gripen officials say they have seen no impact from the appearance of the JF-17 on the scene yet. However, one company official acknowledges “we have to watch the JF-17 as well.”
