The Pakistan Air Force has formally accepted its first Saab 2000 ‘Erieye’ AWACS aircraft.
December 29: The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) has formally accepted its first Saab 2000 ‘Erieye’ advanced warning and control systems (AWACS) aircraft at Kamra air base.
Ordered under Project ‘Horizon’, the first of four aircraft arrived in the country on December 8 with the remaining three expected early next year. Five were originally ordered in 2005, but this was reduced to four in May 2007.
The PAF operates a single non-AWACS Saab 2000 as a training platform with 3 'Globetrotters' Squadron at Chaklala air base near Islamabad.
