SAAB-2000 Erieye delivery flight to PAF at ATHENS - 27/05/2020

We will have 10+ Saab's at this rate plus 4 Chinese AEWCs I think

Do we actually need this many?

They're very useful, being able to 'see' and 'hear' the field will be critical when dealing with Rafales and S400 sams.

We could probably get 10 Erieyes for the price of 1 GlobalEye.

If i'm not mistaken, the UAEAF are the only ones who have received a GlobalEye. Its crazy expensive.
Range matters too. India have less AWACs but there radars have impressive range

. . .
SAAB is showing a huge middle finger to India now. Ever since the indians did away for their MMRCA by deciding to go for their Tejas !

.
And yet we bought 3 more.. thats 7 2000s (not accounting any new sales)+ 4 ZDKs.
First off, we bought Erieyes, not GlobalEye. There's a difference.
Doesnt cost that much. Can be used for maritime surveillance as well, so the navy can pitch in a bit too. Can easily buy 2.
First off, we're not discussing its capabilities. We all know how capable of an Aircraft it is.

And I wasn't aware that a price tag of USD $238 Million was no big deal for the PAF. Lets order an entire squadron.

And incase no one wants to take my word for it, I highly recommend you take that of someone who (actually) knows what he's talking about...
Each GlobalEye (Erieye ER + Global 6000) costs around $280 m. It's very expensive (more so for the radar -- a 70%+ range improvement over the Erieye than the plane), but doable for the PAF. Just put things into context: a squadron of new Western fighters would run you $4-6 billion, but you only have 1/4 the fiscal means for it.

Thus, the PAF can those funds towards 2-3 GlobalEye AEW&C and new GaN-equipped EW/ECM/EA aircraft. But what's the benefit? Well, now your 75-odd F-16s and 120+ JF-17s (growing to 200+) will get a layered airborne radar coverage: nearly 700 km via the GlobalEye and 400 km via the Erieye. So why all that range though? Well, you can now look deep into India's borders without being near their long-range SAMs.

It's definitely a trade-off between off-the-shelf fighters and newer support assets. But since we do have an in-house fighter, I'd rather we acquire assets that make it better, than to get an imported fighter. The money we could spend on an import, it ought to go into developing our own BVRAAM and WVRAAM, getting more support assets, etc.
The SAAB 2000's we're now getting are all old Aircrafts as the last one that came off the assembly-line was in 1999.

Yes, India is operating 3 EMB-145 (Erieyes), but i'm not sure how much of an advantage it has over the SAAB 2000.

If this is indeed true, and it is the original leadership then it is welcome. However that site has come and gone so many times( i spent close to 18 years on that forum) that they have lost their participants for ever ..

What proof do we have that Syed and H Khan are in charge and not some pretenders cashing in on old glory?

I happen to talk the some of the people personally. So yes, it is the same people in charge. I saw MAhmed join. I don’t know if it is Mansoor or not. Just letting you guys know.

There was also a lot of info on the Pak military there, other than the discussion forum. Hopefully, it will get back up as well.

Good news, used to post there often

Did I or the report mention that?

Did I or the report mention that?
I think there is a communication gap...and that you just quoted me twice. Plus, I didn't get what you just meant.

But i'll attempt to go step by step, without inserting quotes (PDF method).

I stated: "We can't even afford ONE."
-Now at this point, i'm referring to GlobalEye which costs a staggering USD 240-280 Million.

You responded: "And yet we bought 3 more.. thats 7 2000s."
-At this point, you're obviously talking about the SAAB 2000's.

Then I stated: "First off, we bought Erieyes, not GlobalEye. There's a difference."
-Here i'm trying attempting to clarify

Your last response: "Did I or the report mention that?"
-Here is where you lost me...
