There are no early versions in Russia. All S300 in Russia is S300PMU2 standard which is 1990s system.

Possibly Syria only got S-300PS or S-300VM. PS is used to be use by Belarus and East German meanwhile S-300VM is now being used by Egypt not all Russian S-300 is PMU-2 version maye

Who told you Israrl doesn't bomb from the Golan anymore? Every time we bomb Damascus we bomb it from the Golan, but a shore target such as Latkia will obviously be bombed from from the sea.

I would not wonder if russia will give they keys for isreal to shut them down.. or they shut them down if isreali air planes will come to visit assad army.. both would work to protect russian air planes over syria..

There were multiple reasons, most having to do with this:
