Russia's T-14 Tank Can Outshoot America's by Miles

The T-14 Armata will kill tanks from three times as far
3x12km?

:omghaha:

Comparing cannon projectile range to cannon launched guided missile range is apples to oranges. Most Western tanks do not employ CLGW. Considered that perhaps there is a good reason for this. But there is nothing to stop the militaries that use them from employing a commercially readily available CLGW such as Lahat, with 8-12km range depending on target (tank of heli) and firing platform (ground or air/elevated). Also, a 120mm smoothbore offered by Ukrainian Morozov company can also use Ukraininan 120 mm guided missile (http://www.morozov.com.ua/eng/body/kbm2.php), so likely this could also be adopted on any 120mm equipped Western tank. Thus, the only issue is which cannon launched guided antitank/anti helicopter weapon gives which range and penetration.

3x4km..average tank projectile range is 4 km..

Comparing the range of a tank projectile e.g. an APFSDS round with that of a cannon launched missile is comparing apples and oranges. As indicated, Western 120mm cannon can easily accommodate CLGWs like the Israeli Lahat and the Ukrainian Konus. Western tank rounds outrange Russian ones.

Please also do not confuse max EFFECTIVE range and MAX range (the former is less than the latter).

Rheinmetall 120mm L/44 has a maximum effective range of 3,500 meters (11,500 feet) for direct fire with discarding sabot round, 1,828 meters (6,000 feet) for direct fire with all other rounds, and indirect fire range of 8,000 meters (26,250 feet) at 200 mils elevation. Whether you can hit a 8km with the 120mm/L44 depends on how good a gunner you are, how good you fire control systems is and how good your electro-optronic sensors are.

Put your tank up againsta earth ramp (incline > greater possible gun elevation) > more indirect fire range.

You see this effect in reverse with e.g. Lahat: if you are able to fire from an elevated position (e.g. a hill > fire into a valley), you get better range from your CLGW.

Someone show me authorized specs on the russian CLGW first, if it is out of development yet!
