There was no subjugation and there was no invasion. Nations and states did not exist back then. The Cro-Magnon cultures were small patched entities. Other europeans were nomads. It came to mixing and indo-european language the lingua franca. This was a process that lasted several thousand years and happened thousands of years before hellenism and rome.
