Russian frigates left without engines prepared for transfer to India
3/07/2015 Lenta.ru
The fourth and fifth Project 11356 frigates, built for the Russian Navy at the Kaliningrad Yantar shipyard, might be sent to India. A source in the Defense Ministry informed Lenta.ru of this. Such a move will make it possible to equip the ships with turbines of Ukrainian manufacture that were previously ordered but which Kiev now refuses to supply since they would be used for equipping Russian warships. The first three ships will be transferred to the Russian Navy on time.

“We have serious problems with the fourth and fifth frigates” (Admiral Butakov andAdmiral Istomin –note by Lenta.ru), said the source. “It is possible that they will be handed over to India. This will make it possible to change the passport of the end customer and receive the Ukrainian turbines for them.” According to the publications interlocutor, the military will resolve the fate of the frigates.

According to sources in the defense manufacturing industry, India expresses interest in the future augmentation of the capacity of a group of Project 11356 frigates, which have recommend themselves as successful ships with good military capabilities, and is now holding talks on the purchase of three more ships of this type as a supplement to the six supplied earlier.

The head of defense procurement at the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC), Anatoly Shlemov, stated in an interview with Lenta.ru that the first three Project 11356 frigates will be provided to the fleet on time and that the fate of the other two ships is currently being decided jointly with the Navy. He also noted that the rift in military and technical cooperation with Ukraine does not negatively affect the construction of the new Project 22350 frigates which will be also transferred to the Navy on time – seven ships by 2021.

On 1 July at the International Maritime Defense Show IMDS-2015 in Saint Petersburg, the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral Viktor Chirkov, stated that in order to compensate for the delays in the construction of the 11356 frigates, the construction of a series of small missile ships of a new type for Project 22800 is being planned.

I don't think so

The Indian Navy (particularly surface ships) is rocking baby !!!!!!!

India now has the capability to manufacture anykind of Surface combatant so most probably this offer will be rejected

let me rephrase :
India now has the capability to manufacture any kind of Surface combatant so slowly so most probably this offer will be accepted

last frigate is inducted in 2013 and next will be in 2023.............so what your suggestion IN should do in this 10 years

.
Two improved Talwar class are supposed to be bought. Adding 2 of these wont change much..

Our shipyards now build ships using advance techniques like modular ship building so we can build them here

Hi
Good decision, @Echo_419 they would be very helpful in replacing the Godavari class frigates quickly and cheaply. And on the capability, yes we can manufacture anything now, but the question is time factor, we can wait for 2023 untill our old frigates are literally rusted away.
Cheers
Thanks

Yes but having Modular design technique does not mean that we will build ships in just split seconds. According to sources India will get it's first frigate in 2023 so IN should go for 3 Talwar class, and these two.

Well since we are a poor country I would prefer that the resources are used in India itself rather than a foreign country specially in a area where we are self sufficient

that doesn't change the fact that P17a will be inducted in 2023.........while last was talwer class in 2013 ..you cannot sit for fukking 10 years ..addition of these two will address moderately

then we need to make more constructing facilities to address more jobs and no of frigates

why there is no construction of follow on of P17 right after completion rather waiting for five years?

a good example is P15B which started with out any delay right from 2013 even before first P15A is inducted

The delay is govts fault & not of the shipbuilder

Its a good idea,
Since Navy was looking towards Russia, for replacing Godavari class
Which are between 27-32 years old
This acquisition could allow us to retire first 2 Godavari class,
While the last one, which received MLU between 2007-10 , could potentially serve till yr 2023

.
I say take it, these ships are almost complete and would fill in any gaps till be get our improved Kolkata class our shivalik class frigate. I realize that the shipyards have improved but with the back logs of orders from the previous years starting from scratch would only delay other projects.
