That's what the Frigats will be meant for, while the destroyers will aim more on attacking surface targets. Scorpenes are not really useful for the CBG, since they are too slow and range limited unlike SSNs. The Nerpa will do that for Vicky, while an indigenous SSN might be ready by the time IAC 1 will arrive too.
Personally, if the Arihant nuclear propulsion is ready and mature enough, I would have integrated it into the first 4 x Scorpenes, since it was a plain nonsense decision to take them as basic diesel-electric subs. But the sub procurement policy of IN is ridiculous anyway, so lets wait and see.

Flag ships are usually the biggest and most capable ships of a fleet and here Vicky and IAC1 won't have much differences in terms of size or the number of used fighters. Vicky was procured as a stop gap measure, but that doesn't make it less capable than IAC1.

I agree, I would have wanted a proper SSN to have an escort for Vicky or Vikrant, but that seems to be a distant dream. and fitting nuke core to Scorpene is not something IN is looking for.

I think IAC1 will be more capable in terms of deep sea operation than fighter to fighter comparison. IAC1 can offer more value in terms of air defense, operational ability like eraly warning, better radar, better CIWS, battle management than Vicky....this itself is a major difference, anit it?

On the face of it there is'nt any great difference; in any exponential terms of capabilities between Vikramaditya and Vikrant.

I dont have any facts with me( as they are not publicly available) to actually substantiate it. But on the face of it, I believe it will be the same difference between Mig-29 and Mig 29 KUB.

For example. The slated crew size of Vicky is about 2500, where Vikrant is about 1400 including air crew(again, as claimed by sources), The radar is new with new air defense systems, a new BMS than vicky. From what I have read I know that Vicky cant operate simultaneous take off and landings. And you cant customize a helicopter carrier to a full fledged Aircraft carrier apart from adding fighters to hangers. But when it comes to Vikrant, you have built it just the way you have wanted it to operate it like a aircraft carrier..i hope you get the drift.

Fitted with similar sensors and eventually with similar self-defence capabilities with identical Battle Management Systems. Slight difference in propulsion systems but having nearly similar sea speeds and operating with similar (if not identical) Screening Groups.

So where are the differences? Even less than the example that you gave as an illustration.

There is quite a big difference on the sensor front. The IAC-1's MF-STAR (EL/M-2248)- RAN-40L combo is arguably one of the most capable/strongest sensor packages of any surface vessels in service today. The Viky's on the other hand (with its FREGET-LORAN-ET1 combo) is just about adequate but seriously behind the IAC-1's sensor suite.

Additionally with the IAC-1 being a product of the 21st and of a largely Western design ethos it will fundamentally be a more modern and efficient vessel across the board.
