The assailant allegedly said that its for Aleppo or something. Hope he's Arab.

Possible, but it shouldn't be that difficult too for a foreign intelligence service to indirectly find some nutjob and make him belief he's doing it for a cause ('Aleppo') whereas the true intention is to cause friction between us and Russia. We shall see as details will become clear.
