Russians are aware that India can not do a squat about Islamic terrorism originating from AF-PK region and central asia. Russia is telling India that now that region is our concern so we will extend our diplomatic relationship to these states including Pakistan.

Superficially it may appear that it's a win win situation for Pakistan, but there is catch, as threat of Islamic terrorism spilling out from here will provide them the attention and assistance they want from nations concerned like they have of USA, China and Russia; already providing them support to fight terrorism. The assistance will/is coming with strings attached, expectations to do more, diplomatic stresses and strains and 100% guarantee of backlash from within.

Like one poster was trolling that India has no option left after USA, but the situation is quite contrary. When you are going to sell stability of this region now to Russia after USA and China; both having complaints about your complicities or high expectation, pissing Russia off will make sure you are Isolated with no other big power left to help or stand for you. India has no obligations to please anyone.

For Pakistan with that big an army and other resources to curb Islamic terrorism is just like switching it on and off. But they need to build consensus amongst each other which is almost impossible secondly they themselves have stakes with them to go easy because of their security calculuses vis a vis Afghanistan and India.

If pakistan can make an intrinsic consensus to fight terrorism with no good bad terrorist differentiation, let off its strategic depth and India centric obsession then this situation will definitely yield better opportunity for Pakistan.

Russia and India are the closest regional friends to Afghanistan and you Pakistanis need to live with that reality.

That is the main priority of the SCO. Not just energy security, but also border security and anti-terrorism in the Central Asian region.

One good thing for us, is that even if some Central Asian militants do manage to infiltrate over, they will find it extremely hard to blend in to Chinese society.

When NATO withdraws post 2014, all regional stakeholders like China, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and India will have to sit down together to ensure that the Taliban and their support for this madness never returns.

SCO would also have to ensure that the borders between Tajikistan and Afghanistan are sealed and electrified.

In fact, I'd say it is best NATO stays there in the country because this would mean that Pakistan cannot continue supporting Taliban against Afghan nationals and against our common interests in the region.
