Russia-Ukraine War - News and Developments PART 2

reservoir near the dam , sure it is steep wall and mood slide if you try pass it , it willbe turkeey shot . way above the dam the bowl tennd to have shorter wall and a lot less steep walls . and artillery well as far as i knew modern artillery don't care if you are in te bowl,, in the desert or in the mountain if you are detected and if there iws artillery present you are pretty much f.......
First of all, what I said is "EVEN IF" the reservoir was completely drained, which you won't if you just destroy the dam, there are going to be certain level of water remaining inside the reservoir once that dam was destroyed, so it would have been the same as crossing a river, just that you are now crossing a small pond where you can't even raise engineering bridge to go across.

Second of all, the bowl effect is not about whether or not you can see the enemy, anything you have elevated and deflated terrain, it present a "BOTTLEHEAD" because you can't all climb and descend that slope at the same speed that you travel across. So you would have to go down and then go up, both of which would have people waiting on either side, that's artillerymen heaven if you know anything about battle tactics. Hence you NEVER cross terrain like that unless you have to.

Finally, this tactic has been used since ages to delay enemy action, like German flooding the field behind France to stop Allied Airborne force during Normandy. You don't just look at one way and say this would do what with which side. You need to compare the effected added on both sides. While I am not saying blowing the dam will not benefit Ukraine in some way, but that benefit is overcome by the hurdle the Ukrainian will face in this counter offensive.

Retired Australian F/A-18 Hornet jets a step closer to joining Ukraine's war effort

Kyiv has assured the White House that it would not deploy second-hand Australian warplanes into Russian airspace if dozens of the retired F/A-18s are transferred to Ukraine.

High-level international negotiations are continuing between Australia, Ukraine, and the United States over the fate of the decommissioned fighter aircraft, in what could become this country's largest-ever single transfer of military equipment to a foreign power.

The Royal Australian Air Force's fleet of Boeing "Classic" Hornets were retired in late 2021 after almost 40 years of service, which included bombing missions in the Middle East against Islamic State.

After the FA/18s were retired, Texas-based company RAVN Aerospace paid a deposit to purchase 41 of the multi-role fighters currently housed at RAAF Base Williamtown in varying states of airworthiness.

Sources familiar with the negotiations say RAVN Aerospace is willing to "on-sell" the Hornets to Ukraine but first requires approval from the White House given the fourth-generation fighters have American intellectual property (IP).

Australia's defence department would also have to formally change its contract with RAVN given the end user is currently listed as being in the United States, not Ukraine.

Defence had been scheduled to soon begin dismantling some of the ageing Hornets for spare parts while other remaining aircraft were expected to go to the United States for training purposes.

Last month, US President Joe Biden raised Kyiv's hopes of securing fourth-generation warplanes when he told allies he was approving plans to train Ukrainian pilots on US-made F-16 fighter jets.

Next month, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is expected to unveil a new package of military support for Ukraine, but a senior government official played down suggestions the F/A-18s would be part of the announcement.

"There are still many hurdles to clear before the F/A-18s can be sent to Ukraine," the official told the ABC, pointing to a shortage of appropriate personnel, training and a lack of spare parts.
A figure familiar with the negotiations on Australia's possible transfer of F/A-18s said Ukraine had now formally assured the White House the warplanes would only be used to defend its own territorial airspace and not be sent on missions into Russian airspace.

Frustrations are growing inside the Ukrainian community over the how long it has taken the Albanese government to unveil further support with this year's budget containing no new measures.

In a letter to Defence Minister Richard Marles and Foreign Minister Penny Wong, the opposition has urged the government to "urgently deliver a new and comprehensive package of support to the people of Ukraine in their defence against Russia's illegal and immoral invasion".

"Australia's commitments have failed to keep pace with our partners. Other non-NATO contributors now increasingly overshadow Australia's support," Coalition frontbenchers Simon Birmingham and Andrew Hastie wrote.

An anonymous quote is speculation. Your article quote someone anonymous. We might as well take any statement by Putins minons at face value, but we all know they are taking the public for a ride.
wonder if this is specific enough for you

and again is this incident any different ?
and about who is trust worthy didn;'t last time zelensky and co also denied their involvement in killing polish nattionals and claimed the missiles fired by Russians ?

for average joe this mean one thing

russia fired the missile . it didn't say russian made missile, it say russian missile so what i post was truth and what you try to do is spin the facts
A US Intelligence official is not an average joe. You do not know the exact words the official used. You do not know if the journalist interpreted the comment or if it was verbatim.

The same article says that the party firing the missile is unknown.

So you have nothing.

you can't be as far from truth if you believe people of Ukraine support Zelensky or people of Russia support Putin on decision they make in this war..

the same usa intelligence that at first said it was russia that made the attack and changed its story later and exactly the same happened in lethal s300 attack toward poland
I believe people of zelensky are supporting as much as I felt Iranian population was behind the regime in its war against Iraq. Conscription, mandatory service, and full enthusiasm to push against Iraqi aggressor. The whole population got behind the war and was able to overcome Iraq to stalemate. You (if your flag is Iranian is true) should understand Ukraine's similarity to Iran . So I am pretty close to historical analogy

In your words...
This moral superiority coming from somebody with the flag you are sporting, where minority has disappeared !

Pls do introspection!
At least we are still teaching Darwinism. Introspection done as clearly the Indian view of evolution is to not teach it.

A minority disappearing is no different than a minority under lockdown (Kashmir). All under the delusion of being a democracy (and the world's greatest and biggest supposedly)

What would happen to NATO if the US withdraw? Am not interested in hearing about objections of the idea. Am asking on the real effects of NATO if the US withdraw, and the consequences on Europe.
You are free to speculate on that.

If you call a US Senator ”an intelligence official”, you are a fool.
They are politicians and some made comments before an official statement came.
Again, the article confirms that the launching party is unknown at that point.

Nothing. At least nothing will change for the EU after this war. Because Russia has exhausted itself so much that it will not pose a conventional threat to continental Europe for at least 100 years. In addition, the EU has established its own army, which will soon gain offensive capability in addition to defensive capability.

Since there is no equivalent economic power in the border neighbors of the EU, there is nothing to fear for the EU. The irony of the matter is that since Britain left the EU, it became easier to establish this army.

After this separation, if anyone is to lose anything in terms of defense capability, it would be Turkiye and non-EU NATO members among NATO members.

Seems, like some on stuck in evolution along with theory!
Good luck!
