Russia to deliver ammunition worth $1 billion to India

. .
So is this why you have to import shells for T-90 instead of making them inhouse under a TOT arrangement? Just curious :)
Every thing cant be produced here , we already have Arjun Mk2 trails going on . We produce here only when we feel we require experience or it might be cost factor due to set up of new facilities that might over burden us , the reason why still we import few mkis directly from Russia despite TOT .

Correcting the lack of ammunition which leads to vulnerability in defense preparedness is of BIGGER priority now than promoting local industries. what u say?

We're lacking soldiers in Indian Army.........so the BIGGEST priority is to increase the no. of soldiers immediately......so when is India going to import soldiers???? :what:

We are not "lacking" anything. We have a shortfall of officers which will be met in the near future and there is no shortfall of soldiers.

 we r lacking with officers not solders

It was just an example.......I know we're not lacking soldiers...but officers....

So according to the 'priority' logic are we going to IMPORT officers.....as we immediately need them.....

You guys don't understand something, this Import Affinity is not good for the country in the Long Run.....
India is world's no.1 arms Importer...
If you think, things will improve slowly........one after another BIGGEST import deals of the world...while scraping domestic projects like 'KAVERI' indicate otherwise......

Yes there is a shortfall in OFFICERS but steps are being taken to address this. The fact is the isn't a shortfall of volunteers to join IA as officers but the IA's own stringent and exceedingly high standards has got to produce the highest, or one of the highest, rejection rates for regular officer applicants in the world. If the IA lowered their selection standard marginally the shortfall could be met within the month. But the IA won't do that and I agree they shouldn't water down the selection criteria as. Other armies have done in the past- this creates major issue down the line.

It will be sorted out in the future when the requirements of the Forces will be known to private companies in advance where they can plan and build a system just in time before the requirements are announced.

Why so many people saying same thing over and over again??The chief specifically stated about the lack of 125mm FSAPDS ammo because the supplier company (IMI) was banned. But the main problem here is that M 711 had better armor pierceing capability than the out dated Russian 3BM44 Mango which we are getting at an widely exaggrated price.Had the Russians been our so called 'best friend',they wouldn't have refused to supply us their latest 3BM44M Lecalo (which by the way are already obsolete when compared to German Rheinmetall DM 53,American M 829A1/A2 and Ukrainean Vitiaz).

Good post!

This is very true and exactly what i wanted to say because Russians have created fuss in supplying such ammunition not for the first time and in doing so, allowed India to exercise other options for her needs. Not a wise approach by Russians
