Russia to build 12 nuclear-powered Leader-class DDGs

I can enlighten some people who asked where Russia will take money. Russia has a third biggest defense budget, so it is not the problem to find money on construction. However, I want to note that these destroyers will be used to replace those that are now in service. That is, during the construction of new one, old will be withdrawn.
Of course, most likely Russia will not build 12 nuclear destroyers. Maximum 6 of them will have nuclear power, it is simply considered as an option.
Budget size as such doesn't say to much, without proportion going to e.g. personnel. Russia is a big country so it will have more boots on the ground, relatively speaking. Putting nuke power in a 6000 ton hull...? I wonder.

Yes, for 6,000 ton ship atomic engine is overkill. But no one knows the exact tonnage, may be variant with nuclear power will be about 10,000 tons (even 14000t according to other sources). It is possible that there would be no nuclear option at all.

ST. PETERSBURG (Sputnik) — The Russian Navy unveiled Lider's designs at the Army-2015 international military technical forum earlier this week.
According to the description, the vessel will have a displacement of approximately 17,500 tons, with a length of 200 meters and a breadth of 20 meters.

The destroyer may be armed with up to 60 anti-ship cruise missiles, 128 anti-aircraft guided missiles, and 16 anti-ship guided missiles. The vessel may reach a speed of 30 knots and operate to up to 90 days without support.

"We plan to start construction of a Lider destroyer in 2019. We are currently carrying out design work," Chirkov said.

He added that the capabilities of the new destroyers would be comparable with the capabilities of a cruiser.

Russia is currently undergoing a $325-billion rearmament program for a 70-percent increase in its military's modern weaponry by 2020

Economic crisis in Russia is short-term, caused by oil prices and sanctions, without that it would rise between 3-4 % annualy.

This ambitious plans is long-term.

Russia many times in its history faces economic crisis. But all over again it succeed to overcome it and become strong like before. Examples ( Russian Tsardom in 17th century, Russian Empire in 18th century, Soviet Union from 1945-1980). No other country/nation manage to build so many times powerful country from the ashes, like Russians did.

Just take a look. Two of the five biggest empires in the world history was Russian (Russian Empire and Soviet Union).

1. British Empire 33.7 mln km2
2. Mongol Empire 33.0 mln km2
3. Russian Empire 22. 8 mln km2
4. Soviet Union 22.4 mln km2

5. Spanish Empire 19.4 mln km2

That's a revised 4500 ton Gorshkov-class (22350) , not the 10k ton Leader class.
