Russia Set to Hand India another Missile Frigate

Exactly.

India have many to turn to for its defensive needs. Russia knows that it will be them who will lose out on the billions which India dish out every year. What surprises me is their careless attitude towards India. Consumer confidence is a major factor for sales. They have already let India down by mounting up the cost and what they did by delaying was simply adding salt to injury.

Not that the Indian armed forces are jumping with joy in going for western weaponry, they know that the only nation they can trust in the time of emergency is Russia (which din't oppose Indian nuclear tests, never sanctioned India, etc.), so they would have been more than happy to give orders to the Russians, but the poor after sales support in addition to the poor capabilities of the weapon itself (in comparison to western tech.) is forcing to divert there purchase of weaponry away from Russia.

India Navy set to receive second guided missile frigate

MOSCOW (BNS): Indian Navy will receive the second stealth warship of Project 1135.6 class from Russia on Friday.

The guided missile frigate, named Tarkash, will be handed over to the Navy during a solemn ceremony at Russia's Yantar shipyard in Kaliningrad attended by senior military officials from both sides.

The warship is the second of three new guided missile frigates India had ordered from Russia under a $1.6 billion contract signed in July, 2006.

The first ship of the class, INS Teg, was commissioned into the Navy in April this year.

The final ship, the Trikand, is presently undergoing dock trials, and after it completes sea trials in the Baltic Sea, will join the Indian Navy in the summer of 2013, Ria Novosti said.

The new missile frigates are designed to accomplish a wide range of maritime missions, primarily hunting down and destroying large surface ships and submarines.

Each warship is equipped with 8 vertical launched BRAHMOS surface-to-surface missile systems as the prime strike weapon. The cruise missile is capable of engaging targets at extended ranges at supersonic speed.

Other weapons on the ship include a Shtil surface-to-air missile system, a 100 mm medium range gun, two Kashtan air-defense gun/missile systems, two 533-mm torpedo launchers and anti-submarine warfare helicopter.

On Oct 7, INS Teg had successfully test fired the BRAHMOS missile system off the coast of Goa. The missile hit a decommissioned target ship at a distance of 290 kms.

You are wrong. Most of the deals you mentioned lost by russians coz they dont have best in this regards.
Like chinook won and apache won on the bases of performance.India used to buy sub standard russian wepaons when we dint have money but we have now and we can have better.

Even in 65 war,our AF was weak and pakistanis AF was better due to american weaponry.

so russians loss only due to their past performance of spare parts delivery and the tech which they dont have.

Do you really think that performance is the only criteria b'coz of which Russians lost?? It is no secret that Russia is the best bet as far as important weapon systems are concerned, we can NEVER trust the americans for this one, but India wants to diversify it's weapons import. You & I both agree that India now has the money to purchase anything, than i ask u why still we have $10 + billions weapons order to Russia?? Also about ur point on the 1965 war, we were operating Russian weapons even in 1971 while Pakistan operating the western weapons, everyone knows what was the result, Russians weapon may be somewhat less in performance to western weapons but there is no large tech. gap b/w them.

Nowadays, it will be tough for Russia to milk it out of India. The west are being very competitive when it comes down to supplying cutting edge modern technology. The door hinge that is holding Russia and India together is the fact that they are long time standing allies. So personally, I don't think either side will let arms sell be the thorn between them. Their cooperation is needed for the overall peace and stability of the region. Russia is also one of a few who offers TOT to India, something the west (America especially) often think twice and thrice about.

Mate he is right.
Apache and Chinook are NOT political decisions. They win fare and square. If it were political decisions Russia would have been pretty mad.

US was and is always ahead in tech from rest of the world. But Russian platforms are and we're good match if not better. Last decade was the nightmare for Russia as they were busy in building back their economy. So less concentration on defence development. But now their economy is good and they are back on defence research and developments.

US weapons are sofisticated and advance. Russian weapons are Rug and RELIBLE. Ask any army man he will preffer AK than any weapon ;)

Lol it reminds me of a scene in armageddon movie where the American SpaceShip which was sent to dock into Russian Station developed some snags due to a faulty fire control mechanism in the Russian station..Fire broke in the russian station and they had to take off pronto but it refused to take off due to that snag. The americans were busy bad mouthing the russian parts even in this panic situation and then the russian cosmonaut who escaped into the American ship left clueless, starts hitting the controls of the spacecraft with a spanner.. When the americans tried to stop him, he was like,

"American or Russian, hell with it.. all are made in Taiwan"

This is the 5th Talwar-class frigate. Add to it the 4 Talwar-class and 3 Shivalik-class frigates already
in service and you get 8 stealth frigates.

IN's plans as of now stand like this -

3 - P-17 Shivalik FFG
9 - Talwar-class (Krivak) FFG
7 - P-17A class FFG

Total plans are for 19 stealth frigates, 7 inducted so far.

These will not complete unless and untill the supposed Air defence system for them is ready ( Barak-8). Any there isn't any news about it from few months. Last we know was radar was tested successfully in Israel.
First of the ship was supposed to join IN in Sept this year. So I guess it's late ;)...... Agin

Nope, this time it is IN's demand of the high tech weaponry & getting best out of P-15As that is responsible for the delay & not the shipyard:

Broadsword: Navy’s wavering delaying warships by years

.
What has happened to the few frigates & destroyers that have been under construction at Indian shipyards。

What's the latest on those ships?Still floating around by what looks like a garbage dump?

No pictures?

Grow up. You are making yourself look like a high iq moron. There was no need to slip that in there

I didn't blam anybody. Not IN or ship yard. I just said its late again - which it fact. Whatever the reasons it might have. And FYI Barak-8 was supposed to hit production line mid this year which it did not. And that might be reason for dealy this time.

Infact this dealy will increase the qualitative value of P-15A project and hopefully P-15B

.
Guys we are also forgetting the Nirbhay CM.. That might also be delaying the P15As ?
