Russia says wants Syria elections, ready to help Free Syrian Army

Assad has another optional term after this one. So max 13 more years for Assad. How many will die until Assad is 63 years old and finishes his max allowed 2 terms?

well, usa's various systems may not have church logo and religion may not play a big role the day-to-day affairs of governance, but it should be recognized that usa government, as defined by white house, projects itself a christian power and has been waging wars against progressive/socialist muslim nations which can be interpreted as modern crusades

and how about saudia??

Er. The US bombed Christian Serbs in favor of Muslim Bosniaks and Kosovars.

. .
Dictatorship? That depends. In Germany there is no term limit for chancellor. In Syria there is term limit of 2. How about in Turkey? How long is Erdogan in power? Is Erdogan a dictator?

Erdogan is voted, he doesn't have the power from his dady. When Erdogan is gone, you can not find the power in the hands of his childrens. Did you now get it what dictatorship is?

Saudi Arabia is a monarchy. A monarchy is not a dictatorship. If Assad proclaims himself a king, then Assad would not be a dictator.

How would you know that for sure? Maybe Erdogan will pass power to his son.

morsi was also voted into power, despite opposition by many... in india, modi was voted into power, despite opposition by many... and both these people belong to reactionary movements.

you see, how can a system be a democracy where a person stays in power when others don't want him... we must make ourselves aware on what true democracy means, and western-style multi-party elections and president/prime-minister system is fake-democracy.

Saudi Arabia is a monarchy. A monarchy is not a dictatorship. If Assad proclaims himself a king, then Assad would not be a dictator.

but surely, the saud family use repression to stay on in power... the shia there and sunni progressives want change... not allowing their wish surely constitutes dicatorship... it doesn't matter really that a king rules in place of a general or leader of a reactionary movement... different names/positions technically but all are the same.

Syrian Presidential elections were held on June 2014.

In 2011, the Syrian population was estimated at roughly 23 million permanent inhabitants

But due to the civil war , 7 Million people were internally displaced, with 2.5 million as refugees in foreign countries.

Majority of Syrians are Arabs and mainly the war is going on in Arab regions.

So again elections means casting of votes by all the Syrians including refugees and internally displaced refugees.

Free Syrian Army groups say did not visit Moscow| Reuters

Delegations from Free Syrian Army rebel groups did not visit Moscow, representatives of four factions fighting under the FSA banner told Reuters on Tuesday, denying Russian news agency reports that such visits had taken place.

Russian Foreign Ministry official Mikhail Bogdanov was quoted by Interfax news agency on Tuesday as saying delegations from the Free Syrian Army had visited Moscow several times, including this week, amid heightened diplomacy on Syria.

The Free Syrian Army is a loose alliance of rebel groups, some of them recipients of military support from President Bashar al-Assad's foreign enemies. It does not operate with a centralized command structure.

"This talk is not correct," said Ahmed al-Seoud, head of the FSA-affiliated 13th Division group, which operates in areas of western Syria being attacked by Russian warplanes.

The spokesman for Alwiyat Seif al-Sham, an FSA group operating in southern Syria, said: "Nothing of this sort happened on our part as FSA. It is impossible for us to accept going to Moscow, and to have dialogue with it. We don’t want their help."

"We contacted our friends in other areas and nobody went," added the spokesman, Abu Ghiath al-Shami.

The main Western-backed political opposition, the National Coalition of Syrian Revolution and Opposition Forces, also denied such visits in a statement posted on its website.

"The Syrian Coalition considers these claims a part of the Russian misleading propaganda that aims at diverting attention from failures of the Russian aggression on the Syrian people," the Turkey-based organization said.

Radio Liberty: US says Russia deploys heavy artillery in Syrian battles - read on - uatoday.tv

US officials say Russia's military force in Syria now includes about 4,000 troops

A top US State Department official says Russia has deployed heavy artillery near the battlefield cities of Homs and Hama, as Moscow deepens its on-the-ground support of the Syrian armed forces' offensive against rebels.

Victoria Nuland, assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs, also said Moscow's air campaign in Syria was costing between USD 2 million and USD 4 million a day, and she described the effort, which has reportedly hit civilian areas, as immoral.

Nuland's comments came on November 4 in testimony before the House Foreign Affairs Committee, where she and another top US diplomat, Anne Patterson, assistant secretary for Near Eastern affairs, faced at-times withering criticism for the US administration's strategy in Syria.
