Think again man. Russia is going to be selling a lot of goodies to Pak in the coming years. This is inevitable. American influence is already waning. Russian and Chinese hardware is more likely for Pak.

Looking at the things more from a neutral perspective Russia has more to gain from Pakistan then to loose in regards to the equipment it is going yo give. The strategies used in WW 1, WW 2 or the Cold War period (Hypothetical War) between NATO and USSR are now well known and talked about in such details that they are completely useless.

The weapons that were the pride of USSR are now in the hands of all most all the enemy states (NATO) making them redundant. Performances and strategies have been rehearsed over and over again. Asymmetric warfare and the surprise element have all been repeatedly taught.

The future developments that USA and NATO wanted to have implemented if the Cold War was to continue to the present time would have certainly made the West realise that NATO has to expand towards the EAST. The defence expenditure would have increased to more or less 5-10% of the budget.

Pakistan has used Western equipment and tactics for the last 67 years and is very well aware of the legal requirements and procedure that are to be followed strictly. Unfortunately during the time of USSR the concept of making things was that it has to be big and heavy. It did not even follow any strict rules or procedures to see if that is fit after it is delivered. This was the only disadvantage. But today Russia in the process of adapting the same Western concepts of Strict rules and procedures while manufacturing any product. Pakistan can offer the Russians these expertise at a fraction of the cost and with no hypocrisy.

Pakistan has done this in the past to help China over come the problems and you can see the results. It is also clear that some other Countries did also help China and credit must be given.

USA should have allowed Pakistan to buy the ATTAK T-129 and also offered some other stuff to Pakistan so that they were able to pressure Pakistan in fact they did the opposite. The sanctions that were placed on Pakistan made it really impossible for USA to try and find a good response.

The WAR on Terrorism (Though the name was dropped later on) was a perfect time to amend the act that imposed Sanctions on Pakistan, unfortunately it did not happen. President Bush and his team of advisers hand thought of many things that might be asked by Pakistan if she decided to be a part of this WAR. Unfortunately it did not go towards that infect what was asked was during the War and that was the time when it could be refused.

Today what is going on in the Western part of Pakistan was informed by the Bush administration and it was looked into in detail by the Armed forces and intelligence personnel. It was decided that it was more convenient to eliminate terror threat once the US and ISAF forces have left the area. What is going on today only requires much less that what it might have if it was at the time of War of Terror.

The US would provide all the support it can give to Pakistan but the issue is that US economy is not up to the same strength which it was before. The Western allies are also not doing well but still some stuff is still being given to support Pakistan as a War trophy.

Hahaha .. no one is stopping you guys from going russian route but think about it... You guys will never be able to enjoy the pull which defence purchases bring with it unless things go to massive scale which India is currently doing.

On top that fact, chinese defence products have reached a level of maturity competing with the likes of russian stuff... which are also cheaper..

So considering the bang for bucks ... its either chinese or Nato/american stuff for you guys !

Please do not forget that US sent its fleet to deter Indian adventure inside your territory. That good was the relation of Pakistan with the US.
Where as India still enjoys very good relation with the Russians. It is not just about weapons, but support at UNSC, G20, etc So if Pakistan day dreams of getting India knocked out with its weapon procurement from Russia, well it is a very bad idea.
