The Argentinian fighter jet deal involves a lease/lend of 12 Sukhoi Su-24 supersonic, all-weather attack aircraft. They are old but NATO still regards the code-named “Fencer” as a “super-fighter” with an impressive 2,000-mile range and ability to deploy laser-guided missiles.

Argentina's Fighter Purchase May Threaten Britain - Business Insider
Dec. 29, 2014

According to a report in the Daily Express newspaper, the Argentine Air Force is set to get a dozen Sukhoi Su-24 Fencer attack planes from Russia in return for foodstuff.

Due to this, the UK Ministry of Defense is in the process of reviewing the Falkland Islands air defenses. The delivery of the supersonic, all-weather attack aircraft could pose a threat to the islands, referred to as “Malvinas” by Argentina.

According to Jane’s, the islands current British air defenses include four Eurofighter Typhoon jets, Rapier SAM (Surface to Air Missile) systems, along with about 1,200 troops permanently stationed in the South Atlantic base.

Even though the Typhoons are modern enough to deal with a dozen Su-24s, the Soviet-era twin-engined two-seater are able to perform ultra-low level surface and maritime strike missions. The planes can be outfitted with a wide variety of General Purpose as well as Laser Guided Bombs and stand-off missiles, such as the Kh-31 (AS-17 “Krypton”) anti-radiation and anti-shipping sea-skimming missiles.

We don’t know whether the potential deal includes armament; still the possible delivery of Su-24s to Argentina makes the Falkland Islands a bit more vulnerable to an attack by the Fuerza Aérea Argentina.

Su-24 - in any case, not long-range bombers, but frontline bombers.

Argentine air force is having all the Western countries attack fighter planes from United states, Germany, France and locally made IA 58.

But if this news is true then would be like Argentine will have even Russian attack planes in its inventory.

So is this news correct or not that Argentine is going to get Russian fighter planes ? For British media Russian Su 24 will be long range fighter bombers because of the Falkland

I do not know whether it's true or not. However, one thing I know - Su-24 is not long-range bomber. Its combat radius is just 560km. For comparison, the combat radius of the Tu-160 - 6000km.

This article first came in British media and i have already checked in Argentine news websites but haven't found anything about this including in the Argentine Air force website.

Shame on India.......Why India is not helping Russia in their hard time...?........I am strictly against India in this matter....It is not good that our close friend had to lease few planes for food stuff...Where is the Indian government..?Are they still sleeping blissfully without knowing this...See i am very tired of all this Indian drama...We should help our friend...Why we are not helping Russia....:(..it is highly alarming that our government should take responsibility and do something for our friend....All these stupid sanctions are not good at all for any country and how other countries can be so rude on a single country...?This time is really bad for India and it's time for India to show the true worth of friendship for our friend..Russia had helped India many time in our hard time without thinking of their own and now i am really very very angry on India's behaviour towards Russia...:pissed:....Where is the friendship now....?....See China and learn from that country....She is helping Russia in it's hard time by purchasing oil from Russia on high prices inspite of knowing that the price of oil had fallen low...That's called a true friend not India which still wants business and stupid politics like stuff...

And what the stupid move is this...
Defence News - India Requires Russia, S. Korea to Partner With Local Firms in Helo Contest

Competition...? Are you serious..?...in this hard time, India want's competition on helicopter selection...?..Then why India said Yes to Russia for 440 Kamov 226 Heli's...?It's not a good decision at all by India...:(.....That's the reason that we are called Indians because we are only confused people with no respect for our friends....

Why do the argentinians even need bombers in the first place?

Hmm. What do you think a normal configuration for a ground attack mission to the Falklands to support invading forces would be? Assume it's a hi-hi-lo mission. I guess that it'll have Kh-23M on hardpoints 1 and 8. PTB-3,000 external tanks on hardpoints 2 and 7. One KAB-500KR bomb on each of the hardpoints 3 and 6 and a single bomb on hardpoints 4 and 5.

2xKh-23M
2xPBT-3,000
3xKAB-500KR

Unless you want to add R-60 missiles for self-defense. I don't know if it needs to have those since I assume that any mission will be escorted by the Mirage fighters that Argentina has. If you do that, you have to remove the Kh-23Ms and put two R-60s instead.

Anyway, with the payload that I assumed it can fire at British Rapier SAMs with its Kh-23Ms while it's still outside their range. The British have 4 Eurofighters. Assuming that they are armed to the teeth with air-to-air missiles that's six AMRAAM missiles and two ASRAAM missiles on each aircraft. 32 missiles total. Assuming an 80% rate of success, that's barely enough to shoot down the 24 Su-24s. With their air defenses crippled by the Argentine Air Force, the ground forces have no support while fighting against the invasion force.

Without an aircraft carrier, the British can't ensure air superiority in the area. At best they can send some frigates/submarines/destroyers to escort an amphibious attack fleet that will try to recapture the island without air support. Doomed to fail basically...

The window of opportunity ends for the Argentines in 2020. A viable solution would be to move a whole squadron of Eurofighters on the island.

And if you want by opinion, I wouldn't exclude a nuclear strike if an invasion takes place... Rules of engagement are quite clear.
