MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The contract on the delivery of four Russian Mi-35 helicopters to Pakistan could be expanded, head of the Russian Foreign Ministry's Second Asia Department Zamir Kabulov said Tuesday.

"It all depends on money. Pakistan has stated that it has the financial means for 10-12 helicopters of this type, but negotiations are ongoing," Kabulov told RIA Novosti.

Moscow and Islamabad are discussing possible supplies of Russian defensive weapons to Pakistan, Kabulov added.

"Pakistan has an interest in other Russian weapon systems. Negotiations are underway. We are talking about defensive systems," Kabulov told RIA Novosti.

In March, Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussain announced Islamabad's intention to expand military-technical commerce with Russia with the purchase of Mi-35 gunships.

In August, a contract for four Mi-35M transport and attack helicopters was signed by Russia's state arms exporter Rosoboronexport and Pakistan's Ministry of Defense, according to a spokesperson for the Russian Embassy in Islamabad.

The Mi-35M (NATO Designation Hind-E) is an upgraded export version of the Mi-24V multipurpose assault helicopter, developed by the Mil Moscow Helicopter Plant.

. .
if we had that much money su 35 would be a reality

.
Russia is in dire need of export orders if pakistan has money then they can get Russian defensive weapons but there equipments though cheap initially turns out to be more costly in the long run because of intensive repairs and there oil guzzling heavy body and engines

.
We might get few S300 , for billion or so it would be good purchase

At least 12 is a good starting number much better then just 4 units

It's interesting that a lot military hardware in India is Russian-sourced. It must be costing India arm and a leg to repair, maintain and use that hardware. Do you have any figures of repairs and costs by any chance?

Well I hope that they increase the order to 12 soon

. . .
As expected the order will go up. Money is definately an issue. As pakistan has already spent around 1 billion dollars on vipers and hell fire missiles.

No precise figures are available as such but we have all read it in media always that Russian equipments are more service friendly then the western ones. India is using 70% of its weaponry since past 5 decades so we have becomes used to and have all the necessary support available in India but in longer run Russian arms are more costly to operate and maintain

I am totally agrees with you even sukhoi 30 is great fighter but requites lengthy and expensive repairing. Pakistan should not buy their fighter jets. Helos are Ok.

I don't think that amount has been spent that quick. It's likely that partial fundings will be initiated now but subsequent amount will be allocated and spent over the next 3 years.

Missiles and helis are ok but helis too are repair intensive and spares are many times hard to come by. Thats why they lost MI 26 night hunter to US apache in a tender. Missiles are offensive weapon and Russians are pretty deadly and accurate too so they will not sell this any time soon to Pakistan

.
As expected, 4 was a low number.......this how we make procurement rolling.........what other defensive systems would Pakistan be looking at? Maybe medium range SAM?
