Russia – Pakistan -Iran working against US-NATO interests in Afghanistan: US General

KABUL: General John Nicholson, the commander of the US forces and the NATO-led Resolute Support mission in Afghanistan lashed out at Pakistan, Iran and Russia.

“The Taliban and Haqqani network are the greatest threats to security in Afghanistan. Their senior leaders remain insulated from pressure and enjoy freedom of action within Pakistan safe havens,” he told the Senate Armed Services Committee.
He said “As long as they enjoy external enablement, they have no incentive to reconcile. The primary factor that will enable our success is the elimination of external sanctuary and support to the insurgents.”
Gen. Nicholson also added that Russia has become more assertive over the past year, overtly lending legitimacy to the Taliban to undermine NATO efforts and bolster belligerents using the false narrative that only the Taliban are fighting ISIL-K.
“Similarly, neighboring Iran is providing support to the Taliban while also engaging the Afghan government over issues of water rights, trade, and security,” he added.

We work for "OUR" interests in "OUR" region. America should leave Afghanistan ASAP. It has totally failed in achieving anything in the last 10+ years except killing millions of innocent people, empowering corrupt and incompetent drug lords, and destabilising peace and security in a geo-strategic region.

Everything with the usa starts and stops with money. If they are in Afghanistan, its only because their military contractors are making big bucks. If they stoke war in the middle east, its because some white man in a Gucci suit is making huge bucks, scraps of which he rolls towards Capitol hill

The biggest American folly: underestimating the ferociously independent Afghan nature. They WILL fight to the end, down to the last man. They will take drugs and keep fighting if it comes to that.

Second biggest American folly: Giving world class training to Taliban who have infiltrated into the Afghan army, learnt from the best in the world, and are now passing the knowledge on.

Third biggest American folly: Putting any kind of weapons into the hands of the corrupt and inepth Afghan army. The Taliban have been overpowering them and capturing their weapons. Heck, Islamic State in Afghanistan overpowered American SEALs and captured their weapons.

In all of this, Pakistan is just a whipping boy. They can vent their frustrations on us, but it won't solve their problems.

OK. Let me change this a bit. Maybe the most supreme American folly was not learning lessons from the Russian invasion, and jumping headfirst into Afghanistan, and not bailing out even when the death of Osama Bin Laden and passing away of Mullah Omar gave them the perfect excuse. They have squandered these gifts we threw into their laps and are whining like a dog.

So what was the US thinking that they can go unchecked in Afghanistan while giving a free hand to India to continue its nefarious activities against Pakistan from Afghanistan and a puppet regime in Afghanistan that caters to all of this while they continue to look the other way? Not only that but the bigotry approach when it comes to NSG or military equipment, US is constantly feeding India while at the same time , denies her entry into the nuclear group and on top of that sanctions Pakistan. All of this and then they have the nerve to complain about it? What were they thinking that this all would be without repercussions just because its Pakistan? How sweet? Time for the general to wake up and smell the coffee.
