This has been going on long before the Syrian conflict and it isn't as simple as separatists wanting to carv up Russia. This has to do with religion, sounds harsh but it's true; it's Muslims killing Christians, Muslims killing Muslims, Muslims killing anyone for that matter.

Look at the thousands of terror attacks that have occurred in Pakistan alone, also look at Iraq even today, look at Africa or the middle east these kinds of acts occurs on a daily basis. they are pointless, the people behind the attacks do it just because they can. Suicide bombings or mass rampages inside Iraq and Pakistan make little to no sense since much of the time it's innicent civilians that are attacked, civilians that are usually Muslims. Most of the time the people behind the attacks are losers, loners and probably suffer depression or some other mental illness. These are not different from the people that commit school shootings, one is motivated by fame the other religion. Both groups are angry and obviously sore losers.

So are you supporting Russia's claim on Chechnya whilst rejecting India's on Kashmir? Could you spell out the reasoning behind this or is it solely based on the fact that Russia does not have a pesky Muslim neighbour claiming Chechnya for itself?

Your flags suggest you are in Russia but based on your comments I take it you have never sought the views of ethnic Chechens on the Russian occupation of their lands. If you did, they would have spoken about their visceral hatred for the Russkies, much of it based on racist and religious prejudices (plus historical grievances and genuine atrocities committed during more recent Chechen campaigns). You would have also been surprised at the level of tacit moral support the separatist movement continues to enjoy among ethnic Chechens and Dagestanis..

PS: I know the region quite well since I used to go out with someone from North Ossetia in Uni and had acquaintances from Chechnya and Dagestan.

We couldn't intermingle situation in Pakistan and Russia, although it's true that every intelligence organization keeps relations with armed groups which can carry out different types of tasks perhaps there is clear difference in between intelligence philosophy in Russian Federation and in Pakistan because first one usually set play ground out of country and second one set own country as play ground.
