Russia Mulls Upgrading Su-57 to 6th Generation Fighter Jet

i think 6th gen jet should have engine of multiple cruise missiles to increase speed but payload increase is challenging

. . .
6 gen planes have quantum radar, nuclear engine, cloaking device. It's a long way off, maybe 100 years from now. In the mean time, 5th gen planes are the best.

Laser weapons
Can also go into space
And most interesting of all
They could be unmanned.

6th generation aircrafts are still not very well defined but variable bypass ratio seems to be key technology.

Ability to detect stealth aircrafts at long range seems another neccessary thing to have before it is worthwhile to consider something sixth generation.

It seems ridiculous that Growlers would be neccessary, so cooperative Electronic Warfare is another requirement.

Low cost/fast maintenance and cost per flight hour?

Protection against incoming missiles through high energy laser?

This is a comparison on 4th generation parameters, and absolutely misleading. Put F-15C Eagle in there, and similar claims can be made for it.

F-35A have excellent maneuverability for a single engine design by the way. Pilots are reporting that its rudder-assisted turns are incredible and deliver a constant 28 degrees of turn a second. Pilots are managing 9G+ turns while putting the aircraft through its paces. One source is reporting T/W ratio of 1.16.

"A former F-15C instructor pilot said he consistently beat his former jet in mock dogfights."

However, F-35 variants are not just about maneuverability (this was the strong point of 4th generation aircraft); it is about what its onboard systems can do for the pilot in virtually any situation. F-35 variants incorporate a powerful EO/IR 360 degree situational awareness system known as Distributed Aperture System (DAS), which facilitate its targeting mechanisms in virtually any situation [BVR or WVR].

"In the realm of air combat, a pilot flying an aircraft with DAS installed should almost always know where the enemy and friendlies are during a dogfight. The system really works as a smart optical search and tracker at longer ranges, notifying the pilot of interesting things it sees, both in the air and on the ground, and as a virtual "back-seater" born with x-ray vision during close-range combat." - Tyler Rogoway

Simply put, DAS enable F-35 variants to obtain a lock on the opposing aircraft from virtually any angle even in WVR situation, and the pilot only need to press the button afterwards.

"As a mature F-35 and an enemy fighter merge during a theoretical dogfight, DAS will keep that enemy aircraft locked up without pointing the nose of the aircraft anywhere near them, and the pilot can fire a network-enabled AIM-9X Block II advanced Sidewinder at it. DAS would transmit the enemy aircraft's telemetry to the highly maneuverable missile in-flight, which has a high probability of destroying the enemy aircraft as it bleeds energy in a hard turn. Meanwhile, the F-35 has accelerated out of the fight or pressed the fight further, taking advantage of the fact that the enemy aircraft is now on the defensive (if not destroyed), and at a low energy state." - Tyler Rogoway

In the shoes of an opposing aircraft, you might have excellent maneuverability but you are still in big trouble because an F-35 variant can simply obtain a lock at you from any angle in WVR (DAS factor), and put an AIM-9X Sidewinder up your **** afterwards.

5th generation fighter class is about VLO, avionics, sensor systems, sensor fusion and automation - domains in which F-35 variants excel. These are the domains in which SU-57 should be measured.

For fun sake; an F-35 on 7G limiter (artificially imposed) pulled this maneuver:

That is complete and total nonsense driven by some hack articles from Business Insider that are full of blatant counter factuals and mistranslations.

Not on par eh. Tell me what's not on par.

Look at what you just did. You just ex'd out supercruise because the F-35 doesn't have it and you are telling ME that Russia cant make a proper 5th gen ? Not worth a further reply.

your important customer Indian air force rejected it - it is marginally improved version of Flanker
