Not very sure of the link ups as the news is more played to flare up anti Russia sentiments.
Technically, IMHO Pakfa stage 1 with present engines is a product which India will not like. Its requirement lies with the full development of the PAKFA Stage 2 with the new gen engines, radar, avionics and smart skin. That becomes the base parent model for MKIing it to Single Seater FGFA and twin seater FGFA.
The Stage 2 matured product i do not see coming out before 2021-22 types simply bcz the heart even if its ready will need time to test and demonstrate that its really 5th gen capable and stable.. Especially with exhaust cooling tech and perhaps reduced IR signatures via Vents. Thus, there is time gap now available.
What people in news journalism fail to understand is that if Russia offers us 3 prototypes for 3.7Bn$ its the prototypes of Stage 1 not Stage 2. Thus, it is inevitable that India may not accept such a proposition and rather wait for the main product well matured Stage 2 version. Moreover its going to come via a JV route for which JV company also have to work out the structure with Russian Sukhoi folks.
During that whole time period, there would be a lobby who would cry hoarse about the whole India Russia deal.
Secondly, S-400 systems purchase has much more than what meets the eye. The need of 77N6 Series Missile is completely different from Chinese S-400 purchase. Thus, effectively if Russia has to agree to let India have 77N6 version HTK missiles of S-500, it cannot happen overnight. The discussions and modalities have to be worked out longer. Moreover India wants these systems to be integrated to Indian BMD command structure and with a Israeli radar too. With DAC approving it just 10 days before PM NaMo visit, its too much expectation to teeth out all modalities and sign a contract. At best i am sure PM NaMo and Prez Putin would had a good discussion but thats not going to be published in public domain.
I think these articles are biased and aimed at creating unrest and emotional instability in India Russia relationship. All this should be taken with a pinch of salt and just let some more time to pass...
