1. Russia's population peaked at 148 million at the end of the Cold War. It is now 146 million. I wouldn't say Russia is having a population crisis.
2. Russia's technology is gaining by leaps and bounds. PAK-FA jets and Yasen subs are examples of some of the finest technologies in the world.
3. Russia is geographically bigger than what it was at the end of the Cold War. Lost 174 sq km in 2008 to settle border dispute with China but gained almost 26,964 sq km back in March.
