So despite Russia having Muslim republics and at least 10% Muslim population and many Muslims in her military forces ( compare that to Muslims in the UK forces), you are telling me that the Russian State is hostile to Islam.
I can get individual Russian people can be xenophobic (especially their far right groups), but in my experience of working with Russians (I must admit only 3), they were okay. I felt closer to them in some ways than I did to many of my British co-workers...

Flights are cheap out of Heathrow. Hotel National Moscow offer a full bed and breakfast service for £60 a night and has good links to transport so you can visit the Bolshoi Theatre, National Museum, Armoury etc.

Well a bunch of Muslim lads that I know are trying to organise a trip to Russia anyways for next year, planning on visiting Moscow and if possible Grozny...

Flights out of Heathrow are possibly the cheapest, perhaps check Manchester too.

Hotel National is the one I would recommend, it has a lot of Brit tourists stay there so you will feel at home.

Taxis are cheap but I would recommend getting a Troika card it’s like an Oyster card, the machines accept major cards or you can load up at a counter using cash.

It unified so you can use the Troika card on metro, tram, bus.
