What's new

Russia invites Pakistan to invest in Sukhoi Jetliner program.

This is an excellent opportunity for Pakistan and Pakistan should benefit from it immediately since that is the best offer it can get. Russia is the most reliable source and the brainless ililiterate kids who are suggesting otherwise should find out who provided Pakistan the steels mills which is still the largest industry in the country. Also remember that your JF17 (of which you're extremely proud) is powered by RD93 - a Russian design and make.
If Pakistan wastes this opportunity then I wold say that would be the most unfortunate decision which the nation may have to regret for years to come. While the slaves of the west in our establishment will try their utmost to derail and sabotage this deal so that after retirment they can live a luxurious life in the west.

Not at all a reliable source.
Go and buy burnol before it finishes in the local market else you will have to pay a lot more to get it from the black market.

Good news if true. Rus has been generously co-op in development of fc-1. Its wonderful despite all we did in afghanistan.

Pak should latch on to this oppurtunity.

.
Realistically, no way..How can Pakistan invest potentially and most likely) in the TFX program, the J-31 and now the Pak-Fa or super SU?

. .
It's been stated here several times, but the offer was in regards to the Sukhoi Superjet 100 airliner, not the PAK-FA. Still, not a bad idea if the airliner performs well and if Russia is open to letting Pakistan take on valuable production workshare in production.

Besides being a regional airliner, Pakistan can leverage its domestic market and investment to propel militarized variants of the Superjet 100 in the future.

Hi,

I would not buy a russian passenger aircraft---. I will stick with Boeing or air bus.

To be fair these new Russian ones were designed with consultation and support from Western companies. Some of the critical aspects, such as turbofan engines, were developed in collaboration with Safran.

Hi,

The problem with the russian civilian prdocut is the quality---. I am more concerned about the fit and finish of the aircraft---rather than the engines---.

Can any of you confirm this....
Not heard anything about this. This could be just political talk. I wouldn't put much into it at this stage.

.
It looks like passenger jet project offer instead of fighter jet offer as the Super Sukhoi fighter jet is program of IAF Su-30MKI upgrade program.
The passenger aircraft made a demonstration stopover in karachi in 2012-13, after which it crashed in Indonesia, and we never heard more of it.

I understand, but it seems Sukhoi was aware of this issue when it began development of the Superjet 100 (SSJ-100). Like its nearest competitors (Embraer and Bombardier), the SSJ-100 uses a high proportion of composite materials. Moreover, the avionics, oxygen generation system and other subsystems are sourced from the West.

If anything, this plane should be given a thorough evaluation in Pakistan and with a fully detailed report outlining its exact strengths and problems. The thing about a nascent platform, especially one from Russia, is that the ones who trust it early might benefit greatly in the long-term. It'd be unfortunate if we miss out on production and MRO work on a platform that becomes popular in Central Asia, Eastern Europe, Africa and potentially elsewhere. And if it is sub-par, a thorough test tour in Pakistan will establish that with certainty.

The jet may be iffy.
But as an analogy- knowing the ceo at a oil instrument firm got me a chance to share a drinks table with some at h'burton. What followed was an invite to a country/golf club where I met another exec and a congressman.

This might be that opening especially as Sukhoi is big.
Also, no harm in manufacturering a few elevators

It has really good potential as a loitering platform

Russia knows we will not do that because PAF/PIA is not interested in that kind of platform and even if it was our financial position will not allow that. But then you ask, Putin is very smart so then why did they make such an offer?

And the answer to that is to counter what he said yesterday about "No tight military ties with Pakistan" (obviously to please the sissy sensitive Indians and their egos) and show his/Russia's seriousness and commitment to have and improve good relations with Pakistan.

@PDF Fanboys with "Inside" sources and highly placed "uncles", please don't start counting your squadrons as yet

Indeed. Such parts manufacturing would be a boon for Pakistan's nascent industry, it might even justify an earlier growth to PAC's composite aero-structure manufacturing (before the FGF instead of during or after it). Besides, an invitation of this nature from the Russian government is uncommon, it'd be remiss on Pakistan's part to turn them down and then later complain about Putin not showing up to Islamabad.

With lower and life-cycle costs than the competition, the SSJ-100 might give a shot at PIA and private sector airlines to revamp their fleets affordably, which in turn would provide the Pakistani industry with leverage to enter the plane's supply channel.

Embraer toyed with adapting its E-Class jets into an MPA. That would be a costly and significant endeavour, but fitting it for EW, ESM and ISR is doable.
