Which is quite true, but not to our expectations in the current era. India is positioned well in the international scenario compared to last one or two decades and are able to buy good stuff around the world.
That's the crucial part! In the past, the west offered us only things they approved to sell to us, today they offer us basically anything to buy that is on their card.
Russia gave us anything they had for years, but now has moved on beyond the buyer - seller relationship, to a partner relationship. A level that the western countries, especially the US will find hard to counter and the rejection of F35 in favour for FGFA is proving that.
So we might be able to "buy" more today, but Russia is still the best choice for arms and techs, because of their partnerships offers and the unique level of techs and weapons they are ready to provide (carriers, SSNs...). As long as this advantage doesn't change (and I hoped the French can make a difference here, but it doesn't seems that way), the Russians will remain our prefered choice.
Which I do not observe, the Euro countries are more and more going to US camp in terms of military technology except France. See the condition of EF now.
Not at all! NH90, A400, nEUROn, METEOR...all examples for joint European developments in competition to US alternatives. In fact European fighters will soon use mainly European weapons, compared to a fully fledged US weapon pack in the past and if you look at the ratio of US fighters in European Air Forces in the past (F16s and F18s) compared to today and in the future, it is clearly turned towards Eurocanards, while only the F35 is coming in as a US fighter. This trend will only keep growing and it is already expected, that the next European fighter project might be led by France and UK jointly and most likely will include other European countries as well.
The condition of the EF has to do with bad planing of the project and at that time a lot of ego, but as said, the same countries that worked against eachother back than are joining for more and more defence related projects today. If BAE would have been included into Airbus (blocked by Germany), it would had made an even faster change in Europe.
Our Relationship with Russia is actually Shrinking in % terms.
........ how does that look like 'growth' to you ?
As I already showed the opposite is the case! The major share of our defence products is and will remain Russian origined and you can't even counter that fact, other than with poor distractions on coming projects, while even the current MKI, Mig and Mi procurements are surpassing US orders in numbers, share within IAF and importance by far.
