You know Russian base in Kamchatka is closer than Venezuela? Right, so basing Bomber there would only mean you burn more fuel and fly over more country (hence risking more of getting shot down) as a strategic point of view.

Russian Bomber fly into US airspace is not something new, it has been since 1950s. This This probably scare the other South American country (Columbia or Mexico) rather than US.

There are no strategic point to do so, when Russian bomber flew from Russian mainland can reach US faster than Russian bomber in Venezuela. What Russia do is only diluting the force, which is not something you want to see in Strategic bombing campaign, which by definition, depending on the concentration of the bombing group.

You do know one tip of Russia is facing one tip of US, right? That is why US have been intercepting Russian bomber since 1950 because US and Russia is actually facing each other.

Russians built around 2-3 dozen of Tu-160s. they are diluting their strength by putting couple of aircraft in Venezuela. What good are the Tu-160s without all the support personnel, munitions and nuclear bombs ? Russians are not sending support personnel. this whole thing is symbolic.
