I think the whole point of this fake was to test the reaction of the Russian militaries. This news has been denied I think.
Putin's military officials anger over RAF go ahead to shoot down Russian military jets | UK | News | Daily ExpressOutraged Russian officials asked UK ministers "to provide an official explanation" of reports that RAF Tornados operating over Iraq have been fitted with heat-seeking missiles designed for arial combat
...
It emerged last night that RAF fighter pilots have been granted permission to shoot down Russian jets if they come under attack while completing missions over Iraq.
Really?
They think doing that they will not face severe consequences.
Shooting down Russian planes over the Air-Space of a third nation?
What consequences should there be?
He will order WWIII if Russian Jets will shoot UK jets. UK still remember what Germans did to them. Russia is all together a different game.
Mind you, only after being attacked by Russian planes over a third nation first.Shooting down Russian planes over the Air-Space of a third nation?
What consequences should there be?
Yes and pigs fly. Bye Bye,A few dozen 10 warhead SS28s will sink that tiny island nation. Uk is an ant compared to Russia. The British Empire is a fossil now.

Seriously doubt it. Putin knows his country is not in any shape to take on NATO conventionally, especially considering the buildup of NATO forces in Eastern Europe. He will not expand the battlespace, and unless everyone was wrong about him being a rational leader, he won't launch nukes over a downed fighter jet or 5 in Syria.
That said there will be no shooting down, this is for self-defense, and hopefully the Russian planes won't try targeting RAF jets and play with fire.
