Russia exports missiles to Iran


MOSCOW Russia has begun delivery of Tor-M1 air-defence missile systems to Iran, confirming that it is proceeding with arms deals despite Western criticism.
An official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, declined to specify when the deliveries had been made and how many systems had been delivered.



Officials had said previously that Moscow would supply 29 of the sophisticated missile systems to Iran under a $700 million (£565 million) contract, signed in December.

The United States called on all countries to stop arms exports to Iran last spring, and to put pressure on Tehran to halt uranium enrichment activities.

Iran insists that its nuclear programme is for peaceful purposes, but the US and its allies suspect Tehran is trying to develop weapons.

The Tor-M1 deal, involving conventional weapons, does not violate any international agreements.

Russian officials say that the missiles are purely defensive weapons with a limited range.

If some people here are having butterflies in thier stomach on reading this news then they should explain why they are so disturbed. After all does Iranians do not have right to defend themselves. Or they are worried that they will not see another Iraq or Afghanistan in Iran?

The occupier status is debatable IMHO though everyone is entitled to his/her own opinion ofcourse.
Correct me if i'm wrong but the presence of jews in jerusalem and surrounding areas predates the emergence of both christianity and Islam.They were driven out of their lands by early muslim conquerors.They migrated to diff parts of europe and faced discrimination and harrasment at the hands of christians. Then we all know what happened in germany and italy after the Nazis and the fascists came to power.They had to leave there too for the sake of the lives. Till the formation of israel they just didnt have a homeland of their own.An israeli wud say they took back what was rightfully theirs.

I'm not a jew.But i do feel sorry for them.

i completely agree!

ancient things are no reason to take others territory.

I personally am an advocate of much greater Indo-Israel ties, but i dont think that it is riht for Israel to take gaza and such. Israel is India's natural ally, and our friendship will last long, but this does not mean that the we should forgive its every move. The GoI cant take a strong stand on this obviously, its a sensitive issue and they cant jeoperdise India's relations with Israel.
So i think we can cut them a little slack.
