Russia Can't Afford Its New T-14 Armata Tanks, Turns To Updated Older Designs Instead

U.S. Army Col. Brian Sullivan described one recent episode to reporters at the U.S. Defense Department last week. He said his troops had encountered a “congested … electronic warfare environment” while fighting in northeastern Syria during their nine-month deployment, which stretched from September 2017 to May 2018.

“It presented challenges to us that we were able to successfully contend with, and it gave us an opportunity to operate in an environment that can’t be replicated anywhere at home station, including our combat training centers,” Sullivan said.

“It’s a great opportunity for us to operate particularly in the Syrian environment where the Russians are active."

The Army was able to successfully fend off Russian EW attacks.

The closest distance between Russians and Americans in Syria is about 500 km. They avoid each other like they avoid the plague. The last thing any of them want is an incident like Turkey shot down Su-24 in 2015.

Oh great after cancellation of Su-57 now T-14,i feels like Russian armed forces were isn't change for the past 2 decades

But some US regime bureaucrats are wanting even propagating for a full blown war with Russia

Nope. That's only lip service for domestic consumption. They fight. They lose. GOP lost everything in 2008 because of Iraq. Even Obamacare passed with flying colors.

Oh yea of course this people like John McCain and Hillary Clinton both these people are warmonger, these people are so retarded that even they want to risk Nuclear war with Russia

India was never even given the PAK-FA for evaluation and you cannot know the full capabilities of an aircraft just by manufacturers claims. India still spend years eveuating aircraft in the MRCA tender (they complained about all of them) so I don’t expect them to know squat about the PAK-Fa especially when they haven’t participated in the program and were denied vital TOT.

India's already finished designing the FGFA, and the aircraft is top notch.

All the criticisms towards the PAK FA are only regarding the Stage 1 with the older engine. So IAF officials have been selectively quoted by the media who do not know any better. Plus the motivations to targeting the Stage 1 were political and not technical, by only a select few within the air force who are biased towards the Rafale. And even they are saying the FGFA program should be delayed enough to make sure we are getting a more mature aircraft in the end, while focusing on older gen aircraft in the meantime. This is something Russia is doing as well.

Officially, the FGFA program was recommended by the expert panel as a necessary purchase. The difference is we have only pushed the decision to go ahead with it or not to the next administration.

Originally, the govt was mooting the induction of 3 squadrons of PAK FA and/or 5 squadrons of FGFA. So one of the two or both. The 3 squadrons of PAK FA are expected to replace the 3 Mig-29 squadrons.

Now we don't know what they are planning. They will likely take a call on the PAK FA/FGFA in Modi's second term. We may even cancel FGFA altogether and either outright purchase a few PAK FAs or license produce the Su-57MKI instead, maybe a Su-60MKI.

The problem for FGFA is, the IAF originally wanted a development program so that Indian R&D and manufacturing could benefit from it. But then workshare turned out to be piddly, which the IAF didn't like. And then, it really pissed the IAF off when HAL said they are happy with the current workshare. And when DRDO was asked whether FGFA R&D would help them get advanced tech, DRDO pointed out they can develop all the FGFA related tech by themselves. That's why FGFA is in question today.

And since we do not need FGFA R&D, we can wait a bit more and simply go for an MKIzed version of the PAK FA at a later date. FGFA was an 8-year program, out of which 3 years was for MKIzation. Instead we can go straight for the MKIzation part, which saves us 5 years of development time. So now we just have to wait for the Russians to complete the development of the PAK FA before we make a decision.

In simpler terms, the IAF is merely waiting for the Russians to make a proper financial commitment towards the Su-57 before India does.

So best not go by what India says in the media about the PAK FA/FGFA unless the source is official. The media simply distorts actual information because most in the media don't understand the program at all. ToT has no relevance to this. Most of the PAK FA tech is going into the Super Sukhoi program anyway.

War can only be declared by Congress. President CAN fight a war for up to 60 days without informing Congress, BUT it is political suicide. Even Bush didn't go to war in Iraq and Afghanistan without informing Congress. Can you imagine what happens to a president to goes to war with Russia without informing Congress? Yeah that'll turn out well for him or her. Not.

I think in the future Su-57 / FGFA replace Su-27 and Su-30 but it's not in the foreseeable future. Su-27 and Su-30 are fairly new and still have several decades to go.

Su-57 will replace many of the old Russian Su-27, which are over 300 jets. Many of those are close to finishing their life in a few years since they were bought during the Cold War.

Not in a few years. Maybe starting 2030 or so. Su-27 introduced in 1985, nearly 10 years after F-15 was introduced.

There should be somebody rich in the Middle East interested in the T-14s. It would be interesting for Egypt to buy a few billion dollars worth and then Sisi is toppled and Netanyahu cries and rages the Egyptian army has divisions of the best tank in the world.

Russia wants India to help them bring Armata back from dead. https://thenewsrep.com/109001/india-to-bring-russias-new-t-14-armata-back-from-the-dead/

Indian Army Chief General Bipin Rawat is currently visiting Russia, with Kremlin-owned media outlets widely reporting that part of his six-day visit will be devoted to discussing the possibility of India purchasing some number of T-14s. While Indian officials have yet to confirm Russia’s claims, they do seem possible. Rawat is indeed visiting Russia, formally for the purposes of discussing the strategic partnership between the two nations, and India is in the market for new armored platforms. Last November they released a global Request for Information (RFI) aimed at finding potential platforms to replace their aging armored assets — which are notably made up of the same T-72s Russia claims they see no need to replace at all.

In fact, first 100 Armata's have been ordered and currently in production.
