What's new

Russia at International Defence Exhibition and Seminar (IDEAS) 2014 in Karachi.

But mbda quotes that aspide 2000 has 40% improvement in range vs baseline aspide missile while both LY-60 based on aspide mk1 and aspide 2000 have a difference of just 5 km,,ie 20 and 25 km with length of missile and weight notoriously closer to one another.

Is aspide mk1 same as baseline aspide??
See the Naval Institute Guide to World Naval Weapon Systems page 578: "30-40% more range" relative to older Aspide. If you take 35km (apparently the original quoted range for Aspide 2000) and devide by 140 then multiply by 100 you get 25km. But the Guide mentions that Aspide 2000 range is 40km rather than 35km.
If you look in that same guide page 570 with LY-60, an intercept range (not necessarily the max range) of 18km is given with an altitude coverage of 12km.

I think @Penguin & @gambit can provide good analysis of following systems:

SPADA-2000 V Buk-M2KM V LY-80E V Pantsirs-1 V Tor M1

LY-80E
Range: 3-42km for combat aircraft, less for missiles (3,5-12km depending on type)
Altitude: typically 400m-10km, max 15-18km
Mach 3
Stationary vertical launch

This is more a dedicated site defence system, mobile but not moving with tanks

Buk-M2KM (9M317)
Range: 2,5-45/50km for combat aircraft, less for missiles
Altitude: max 15-25km
Mach 4
Tracked, armored TELAR, rotating turret, go-stop-fire-go.
SA-17 Grizzly BUK-M2 9A317E missile technical data sheet specifications description pictures - Army Recognition - Army Recognition
Buk missile system - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This is more an organic mobile army system, moving with tanks.

While the purpose of SPADA 2000 seems more closely aligned with that of LY-80, the former is a much smaller and lighter missile (about half the length, a third of the weight). Which should make is easier to deploy forward, and to hide. Interestingly, it has been used to upgrade SA-6 systems, which allows a use more simular to that of Buk.

Pantsir started out as a system similar to Tunguska (gun/missile combination), but a wheeled rather than tracked system. In time it developed, got a longer range role. Still, depending on mount (tracked or 8x8 vehicle), it can be either organic army AAW like Tunguska or mobile site defence. This is more of a quick response, (very) low altitude air defence capability.

Nice analysis, but you left Tor-M1 please post about it to, and what you think Pakistan should buy from Russia as Pakistan already have SPADA-2000 & now LY-80E is also coming?

TOR M1 is a tracked VL system to complement Tungushka in mechnized units. Similarly, as Klinok/Khinzal, it also complements Kashtan in the Udaloy destroyers. It can deal with aircraft and missiles. It has 12-15km range relative to 8 for Kashtan and Tunguska. Ceiling 10km max. Being VL, it can deal better with sequenced streaming attacks along multiple axis of attack. The missile weighs. At 167 kg (368 lb), the 9M330 missile is 3 m long. (a bit smaller than Aspide 2000)

What you think Pakistan will purchase out of all Russian systems on offer? and what is your opinion what they should purchase?

Will those systems be good deterrent against IA & IAF strikes? can those help increase protection level against those threats?

More like russians are desparte to sell something:lol:
But anyways i checked pantsir s1,,its not that bad really.Plus russians have sold a lot of those globally.

they were, since 1947

I'm expecting wheeled rather than tracked variants to be of interest (Pantsir S1, Tor M2K/KM, Buk M2E). Of those, the dismountable ones would have preference (Pantsir S1 and TorM2KM), as a variety of 8x8 trucks could be used to moved these modular systems.

Pantsir S1: The primary design aim for this system was the interception of PGMs, especially the AGM-88 HARM and GBUs. Missile Range 1200-20000m, altitude 5-15000m . Gun range 200-4000m, altitude 0-3000m. Provides very high mobility (8x8 wheeled). Most recent Pantsir S1 variant has a PESA engagement radar and a planar array search radar antenna, with much better sidelobe performance compared to the concave reflective design of the earlier Pantsir S.

Tor M2E: Earlier variants developed to defend land manoevre forces against ATGW firing attack helicopters and low flying missile firing close air support fighters. More recently the role of the system has been redefined to protection of high value targets against precision guided munitions and cruise missiles. The current Tor M2E has new radar package and is carried on a wheeled chassis, both optimisations for its new primary role. The system can destroy moving enemy targets within the range of 12km and at altitudes from 10m to 1,000m.

BUK M2E : Designed to engage strategic and tactical aircraft, helicopters, cruise missiles, tactical ballistic missiles, aircraft missiles (e.g. HARM), Precision-guided weapons, sea surface targets and ground targets.
Range 3-50km Altitude 0,01-25km against F-15 sized aircraft (less for other targets). Avilable on MZKT-6922 wheeled chassis.

In addition, the S- 350E / 50R6A Vityaz air defence system might be of interest (but isn't mentioned). This is expected to replace previous variants of the S-300 systems and to complement S-400 systems. The mid-range guided missile system is compatible with 9M100 and 9M96E / 9M96M missiles manufactured by Fakel Design Bureau. The 9M100 is a short-range missile featuring infrared (IR) guidance. It is 2.5m long, has a 125mm diameter body, and weighs 3,073kg. It is used as both a surface-to-air missile and an air-to-air missile, and has a maximum range of 10km. The 9M96E / 9M96M, which is originally meant for the S-400 missile system, is a dual-role, self-defence and IR-guided missile. It has a 26kg FRAG-HE warhead and travels at a speed of 900m/s up to a range of 40km. It features active radar terminal homing guidance system and measures 4.75m in length and 333kg in weight. It has a body diameter of 240mm and wing span of 480mm. Start of production in 2015, with first deliveries to Russian army in 2016 (which makes it a little less likely as export. But who knows, in time)
