(ANSAmed) - MOSCOW, OCTOBER 15 - The Russian defense ministry said Thursday that joint training of Russian and Israeli air force pilots had begun in order to ensure air safety in Syria. The ministry noted that a line of contact had been established between the Russian air base of Hmeimin near Latakia and the Israeli forces. The first training phase ended on Wednsday, organized as part of ''cooperation between Russian and Israeli air forces to prevent dangerous incidents in the skies of the Syrian Republic,'' spokesman Konashenko said. ''Information exchange has also been organized on flight activities between the Russian control center on the Hmeimin base and Israeli air forces commanders.'' On Thursday a second training phase is being held, said the ministry spokesman. (ANSAmed).

In my opinion the Israelis are stepping in to cooperate with Russia in exchange for keeping the Hezbollah and the IRGC far away from their borders. I genuinely believe that there will be a certain threshold which the Hezbollah and the IRGC will not cross as it will upset the Israeli comfort zone, it will be the SAA (and maybe the spetsnaz?) which will have to go solo beyond that threshold.

The Russians here are not only providing the CAS but also acting as sort of mediators on behalf of the regime because the regime alone doesn't have that major political clout.

That is not going to happen. Russia coming to the war was for only one thin. Help Assad and those who back him with air support. Russia will allow Israel jets into Syrian airspace into bombing those who are helping Assad (Hizbollah).

Israel mostly bombs Iranian proxies in Syria (Assad + Hezbollah) and now Russia is joining in with Israel in joint exercises over Syrian skies LOL!

BTW, IDF artillery shelled some SAA posts on Tuesday, a few days ago, after some loose mortar shells from Syria landed on this side of the border.

I.e. Israel shelled Russia's buddy while Russia has military presence in Syria.
