At this point the best option still remains Scorpene despite the horrendous delays in the program. The savings within training in logistics will far outweigh any fleecing the French have in mind. The U-214,Amur and the S-1000 all work on fuel cells. Now the U-214 is as mentioned before a work of art, but also very expensive to keep and maintain. So unless India changes its mind entirely to focus on fuel cell technology(and then yet again learn another logistical headache having to keep both the existing scorpenes with their ethanol system and then fuel cells(provided India opts for MESMA at a later stage).
There is not much known about the indigenous AIP DRDO is developing but it would make sense to continue it on any sub of the Project 75I acquisition( now that it is NOT an indigenous platform). Knowing that at this stage India now has engineers and workers who have the know how to construct a Scorpene sub, it would clearly speed up the modernization process to continue the class.
