Rumors: Pakistan to acquire five C-130J Super Hercules

C-130 B model production ended in 1963. It is therefore understandable that PAF needs to replace her 60 years old C-130B fleet. A new C-130J will set you back at least $60-milion per unit or more depending upon buyer options.

A relation thru marriage whom I met in Calgary last year; ex-employee of a company dealing in used commercial & transport; had informed me that a decent refurbished H model Hercules could be had for $10 to $14-million per unit. I am therefore surprised that ‘Cash strapped’ PAF is planning to spend at least $300-million for 5 C-130J. One would have thought that PAF would instead opt for the same number of refurbished H-model Hercs for about $70-million in total. The rest could be spent on much-needed upgrading of fighter fleet or for improving electronic warfare capabilities.

Sorry, but I would only believe this rumor when I see a C-130J model in PAF livery.

USA not releasing the engines for T129 has nothing to do with Pakistan, its the Turk US relations that are not on good terms...
It is not a secret US turkey relations not good, but is it the only reason?
TEI subsidiary of TAI, in JV with GE to produce TS1400 turboshaft and 2 other engines and JV is alive. Why would US stall T800 for T129?
This exasperate fact more Pak should go for T129 instead of US sourced Vipers, F-16, C130s, etc. Spares can be blocked any time. Pakistan will be like, what lesson learned from history? No lesson learned!!

Hence, Turkey is nipping this at the bud!!! Going on full throttle for indigenous engines, transmissions etc...

Nothing like having your own military industrial complex...

PAA was going to operate both T-129 and AH-1Zs together. That might still come to fruition. Will just have to wait and see.

Is that why the I-Class frigates are using the MK.41 with ESSM and RIM-116 for PMDS?

Insha'Allah!! And, Pak will get much more than few choppers, it'll get access to the entire eco-system like MILGEM...

Top money is being spent on top defense projects at the top Turkish universities' top faculty members and students for a reason!! Almost all the top engineering and science grads in the relevant fields get a job offer in one of the Turkish defense companies by the time they are at the senior year. They do their summer practice and senior year projects in these companies. The master's thesis and PhD dissertations are also a part of these projects. Many a fresh grad in defense companies complete their grad work as part-time students working on defense related academic projects. So, it's defense all the way both in the academia and industry...

The Turkish government has set-up techno parts within the campuses of the leading universities to help incubate the start-ups. When it's defense related funding is no issue. I was amazed to find what even the undergrad students are working on (e.g., designing and fabricating more efficient power processing modules to be used in the combat UAVs)...

It's a mission to change the course of history...

*Babur Han dreamt of conquering Hindustan while sleeping under the trees in the Fargana valley! He channeled all his efforts with a "singularity of purpose" toward that direction. The rest is history

Is that why the I-Class frigates are using the MK.41 with ESSM and RIM-116 for PMDS?
I've no clues about the details!!!

Pak will probably get T629, having indigenous engine and transmission, with higher power and payload to take a better shot at the armors! Not to mention better EW, sensors, radars, longer range A2G and A2A missiles etc.! The test flight is within this year with the serial production by 2022/23...

At the end of the day, it's a Mujadele b/w Iman and Kufr!!! And, the PRIME MOVER is especially Merciful (Ar-Rahim) on the believers...

The issue is not as simple as 123. PAA doesn't operate any cobras with the engine Zulu or Whiskey has. Till Pakistan has them they can not buy any derivative of these engines hence the problem in acquiring T129. The Turks wanted to allow PAF Kamra to manufacture them fo Pakistan if US approved the engine to be handed directly to Pakistan. This could have further expanded to the Philippines order as well but the US came up with the excuse as PAA Zulu can not be delivered hence this engine is under embargo. Same is the case for Philippines. If you remember South Korea was also interested in T-129 but opted for upgrading their Apache.

Updates are available but are not meant for open sources yet.
Chances of Russian Flankers in PAF are approximately zero.

Chinese Flankers for the Navy (long range, twin engine safety for over the sea to protect our navy with air cover, especially second strike submarine bastions) and as Growlers (due to their ability to carry heavy pods and self escort) would be the only roles they could do, which would make them worth acquiring, considering all the costs, training and logistics involved.

So only US and EU options left???

They wont..they will simply state hey buy the zulus..and army wouldnt say no..
Anyway getting zulus or f16s and tones of otger equipment will be on higher pirority list as compared to arguing about t129 engine.

Philippines didnt get it..we wont either
Should one give up that easily? When there is a will there is a way! Didn't thunder rolled out of Kamra despite numerous hurdles. India trying Russia to not supply RD-93?
The project came up as good as any could be. If in my hands, I will make T129 project work one way or other. Engines can be sourced from Safran or from russian vendors. Later Turkish indigenous engine will definitely come out.
In the interim improved Z-10s can be sourced. But T129 is a gem because of its european origins and with as reliable a partner as Turkey.

I have a feeling that this news is true....and also about the Helis and F-16 (70/72).

My reason is the COAS visit to Afghanistan a day ago.

This shows that Pakistan has big gains to make if US leaves Afghanistan as he intends to.

These big ticket items were linked to US exit plans going smoothly.

In addition, I don't think COAS will even get up from his bed, let alone travel to Afghanistan, if there not major gains.

J version is double as efficient and half the cost per hour
actually maybe cheapest in the world to operate

.
Do we have any rough ETA as to when they would start arriving?
