I am thinking out loud! forgive me!

let us be objective and dont get ahead of ourselves....if PAF has sent fair amount of CAT"A" Pilots to chengdu, that could mean 3 x things...and 3 x things only..

1. Initial pilot conversion course and impending delivery of J-10C
2nd. it could be nothing...we had sent them to train as initial Block 3 pilots.
3rd. if it is none of the above then it could be much bigger....that would require ground up training and flying in a new gen fighter...it requires completely different mindset in flying & fighting..sending CAT "A" pilots to PRC this point in time is very important.

which actually makes sense?

1- J-10C - highly UNLIKELY.

2- Block-3 training - highly UNLIKELY. Package developed by Pakistan hence no need to go to China for special training.

3- Some other aircraft -- maybe

Other Scenarios
4- Possibility of "Joint" Ops with the PLAF keeping in view the current indian situation.

5- Fake news - there are no pilots in China.

Since the thread pertains to C-130 and heavy lift sqns. I wanna ask why dont PAF go for more IL-78. It has more lift capacity and less sanction prone then US systems. It wont be a new system hence integration would not be a problem.

Also keep in mind since those Shaheen exercises, Pakistan and China have been working on integrated battle plans and training.

Hi Tall Guy, I think we can rationally figure this out IF the info is right. Here is what I think:
https://defence.pk/pdf/threads/twin-engined-j-10-what-happened-to-it.672197/#post-12456683

In addition, some quick comments:
1. Both you and Khafee have reported presence of PAF pilots. You have added they are CAT A pilots (for those uninitiated, this means the best fighter pilots of PAF). Khafee has added they are there to train on a new bird (or fish).
2. PAF does not need CAT A pilots to leave Pakistan right now. Nor does the JF-17 BLock 3 require the presence of PAF pilots in force in China. No body knows how to fly the JF-17s better, and being identical to previous blocks, they are not going to do something completely different aerodynamically. So, logically it follows that PAF is not there for the JF-17
3. J-10C makes the most rational and pragmatic sense. They have been offered and allows PAF to implement a strategy of acquiring war time emergency numbers from China (ala F-7s) to augment their force during a crisis.
4. If they are in fact in Chengdu, then its for J-10s or J-20s. Or a third new type. There is no other logical explanation for this.
5. If both you are Khafee are correct, the logical conclusion is a third type. Since the PAF is not in the business of flying clean sheet experiments, the logical conclusion is that this third type is based on the J-10 or the J-20.

So, it follows that - the PAF is getting a new bird and this is either a J-10C, J-20 or a third new type.

Stick to the topic, This is not a J-10 or J-20 thread, its a thread about possible purchase of C-130J by PAF

My view is that the Pakistan Airforce , and Military , after the Covid-19 pandemic have finally realized a point which I harped about for long time that Pakistan's Transport Supply capabilities are not at world standard

The chronic shortage of Helicopter Transport units and C130 Type Heavy lifters is visible shortage

Likely the Planners must have realized in order to supply emergency needs as in case of Covid-19 it is too much burden on the existing old fleet we have

So that Justifies the acquisition talks of 9 Super Hercules (5 news and 4 used), C130 Transport Units

World Wide, the usage of Transport Helicopter and C130 Like planes is increasing for transporting water, food , and ammo

Since our older planes are from 60's that is a fairly long long time even with upgrades , some extra help with modern C130 is helpful to ease the burden on older fleet

  • Transport food
  • Transport waster
  • Rescue people in seasonal flood
  • Occasional international humanitarian mission

  • Transport of Covid-19 medical supplies etc

I would imagine even after the arrival of these units we would still need 10 smaller Transport units of medium size

It is, should be in PAF in 2-3 months. Would be hear already had it not been for COVID19. It's hard to have a conversation as all these useless analysts whose contribution is a sum total of zero will just jump up and down and do an Indian hissy fit - and won't let others have a discussion.

I may add that a good number will be the EW variant and my speculation is that numbers will (eventually) be about 54 or three squadrons. Chinese engines have matured and these aircraft can deploy a ton of a2g and a2a weapons that nothing the world has seen so far can.

These will be the new top end of the PAF. Supplanting the F-16s. LRAAMs, hypersonics, what more can an AF want?

Perhaps one of the most powerful AESA fighter radars in the world... will burn through EW and be EW assets themselves. GaN
Will be waiting for there landings news in mother land, hopefully it will meet all the expectations we have

there are problems with "shark" it needs time plus (it is superseded) what is rumoured in Chengdu not shenyang!

so they are on "Dragons" or dare i say "something else"
You mean J10C or some sabling ?
