Ruling parties of India-Russia sign agreement to come closer
The ruling parties of India and Russia have come closer by signing an agreement to ensure greater contact and cooperation between the two organisations.
Indian National Congress and United Russia Party initialled the agreement on Saturday last in Moscow during the 13th Congress of the ruling party of Russia.
Congress General Secretary Janardan Dwivedi and S Neverov, Secretary of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the United Russia Party signed the protocol which is in line with the strategic partnership between India and Russia.
Under the agreement, the two parties will organise bilateral and multilateral seminars, conferences and round table meets on issues of importance on international affairs as also concerning Indo-Russian relations.
A two-member delegation of Congress general secretaries Dwivedi and Mukul Wasnik was sent to the meet by party chief Sonia Gandhi.
Dwivedi also got the honour of addressing an international round table on the Eurasian Union organised by the Russian party on the occasion.
The Congress leader hailed the efforts by the Russian leadership in recent years in pushing structural economic reforms which have resulted in remarkable recovery of the Russian economy. This has helped it become an engine of global growth along with other BRICS economies.
Dwivedi utilised the occasion to greet Vladimir Putin on his assumption of office of President after the successful conduct of elections and a decisive victory.
