Formularies containing monographs of quality standards of AYUSH drugs are being published by the Government: Shri Shripad Naik
Ayurvedic, Siddha, Unani and Homoeopathic drugs are regulated in accordance with the exclusive provisions for them in the Drugs & Cosmetics Act, 1940 and Rules there under. These drugs have to adhere to such standards and quality control parameters as given in the authoritative books, pharmacopoeias and formularies of Ayurvedic, Siddha, Unani and Homoeopathic systems, which are different from that prescribed for allopathic medicines. Till date, monographs of quality standards of 645 single drugs & 202 compound formulations of Ayurveda, 298 single drugs & 150 compound formulations of Unani system, 139 single drugs of Siddha and 1117 monographs of Homoeopathic drugs have been published in the respective pharmacopoeias. Similarly, Ayurvedic Formulary contains 985 standardized formulations, Unani Formulary 1229 formulations and Siddha Formulary has 399 standardised formulations.
Under the provisions of Drugs & Cosmetics Rules, 1945, Good Manufacturing Practices and Quality standards prescribed in the respective pharmacopoeias are mandatory for the manufacturing of licensed Ayurvedic, Siddha, Unani and Homoeopathic medicines. In addition, two voluntary certification schemes for Ayurvedic, Siddha and Unani medicines are implemented respectively by the Quality Council of India for grant of AYUSH Standard & AYUSH Premium marks and quality certification of products as per WHO-GMP and COPP guidelines by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO).
Appellate Laboratories for Indian Medicine and Homoeopathy under the provisions of Drugs & Cosmetics Rules, 1945 have reported testing of referred samples of Ayurvedic, Siddha, Unani and Homoeopathy drugs during last three years as under-

The Appellate Laboratories after testing of the referred samples send the analysis reports to the concerned authority for necessary action. Regulation and Quality control of Ayurvedic, Siddha, Unani and Homoeopathic medicines is carried out by the State Licensing Authorities / Drug Controllers. As per the information made available from the States, 11889 samples of AYUSH medicines have been tested in 24 States during the period 2013-14 to 2015-16 out of which 254 samples failed in quality testing. State Licensing Authorities reported to have initiated appropriate actions against the samples not complying with the standards including issue of show cause notice, suspension /cancellation of license, recall of the concerned batch of medicines from the market and prosecution.

Rs.157.88 lakhs released for set up of 100 bedded hospital in Bhubaneswar
To set up a Central Research Institute of Yoga & Naturopathy (CRIYN) at Bhubaneswar, Odisha with 100 bedded hospital, the Central Council for Research in Yoga & Naturopathy (CCRYN) has obtained 20 acres of cost free land from the State Government. Funds to the tune of Rs.157.88 lakhs have been released to the CPWD for construction of boundary wall, walking track etc. Demarcation of the allotted land has been completed in July, 2016. The Project is presently held up due to resistance of the residents of the locality.

Two important drugs developed by CCRAS have been commercialized recently: Shri Shripad Naik
The Central Government has set up four Research Councils, namely Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM), Central Council for Research in Siddha (CCRS) and Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy (CCRH) which are involved in research activities, inter-alia including development of new Medicines.
The Council-wise details of completed projects on drug (Medicine) developed during last three years and current year are as below:
(i) CCRAS: Drugs by the name AYUSH 82 (for Type II Diabetes Mellitus) and AYUSH SG (for rheumatoid arthritis) have been commercialized.
(ii) CCRS: Drug namely D5 Chooranam has been filed patent (for Diabetes Mellitus).
(iii) CCRH: Drugs developed in Homoeopathy are as follows:-
1. Coleus forskohlii
2. Catharanthus roseus
3. Cyclosporinum
4. Azathioprium
5. Buxus sempervirens
6. Cynara scolymus
7. Persea americana
8. Withania somnifera
(iv) CCRUM: Patents have been filed for five Unani drugs on filariasis, hepatitis, ulcer, vitiligo and malaria. In addition to above, the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) also conducts research for development of herbal drugs and formulations. CSIR has developed BGR-34 for diabetes, Risorine for tuberculosis and Anti-arthritis formulation for osteoarthritis.

Rs. 41712 lakhs sanctioned during 2016-17 under NAM: AYUSH Minister
Under National AYUSH Mission (NAM) grant-in-aid is being provided to State/UT Governments as per their proposed State Annual Action Plans (SAAPs). Since, implementation of the programme comes under the purview of State/UT Governments, no target has been fixed by the Central Government State/UT wise. However, resource pool allocated under NAM for each State/UT Government is communicated to the States/UTs. Accordingly, States/UTs are required to prepare their State Annual Action Plans (SAAPs) as per their requirements in accordance with NAM guidelines.
The Government of India approved and notified National AYUSH Mission (NAM) on 29th September 2014 which envisages better access to AYUSH services, strengthening of AYUSH educational institutions, facilitate the enforcement of quality control of Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani & Homoeopathy (ASU &H) drugs and sustainable availability of ASU & H raw-materials in the States/UTs during 12th Plan.
