Gwadar seaport’s security, surveillance and safety of maritime CPEC route are the additional tasks of Pakistan Maritime security agency. As CPEC is rapidly getting momentum the responsibilities of PMSA are also becoming more. PMSA recently inducted 2 new vessels in its fleet PMSS BASOL & HINGOL, These vessels are capable of supporting helicopters but unfortunately PMSA air wing does not have any.Last Defender aircraft was inducted in 2004.
After viewing recent pictures of PMSS BASOL and Hingol it’s hard to say that these 600 ton vessels are really capable of handling a helicopter landing or just a deck for Air drops/picks. Here first tender document of PMSA give us some hints.
Main Characteristics
2.1.1 Ship Type
The ship shall be designed and constructed as semi planning vessel with
single continuous deck, raked stem, flaring freeboard, transom stern and
round bilge fitted with spray strips and one pair of anti rolling fins. Propelled
by four fixed pitch propellers driven by four marine diesel engines and
steered by four rudders with a separate helo landing and take-off deck.
=====================
3.3 Landing and Take-off Facility
Landing and Take-off facility (Flight Deck) shall be provided for Search and
Rescue helicopter (Suitable for SAR Helicopter of approx. weight of 5.5 tons).
1500 ton vessel
Helicopter Deck Support System
Following helicopter deck support facilities shall be provided:
1. Take-Off/Landing platform and relative facilities.
2.Helicopter lashing and Ianding devices.
3.Light landing aids system.
4. Electricity supplies.
5.Aviation fuel system.
6.Safety and fire-fighting facilities.
7.Communication and guidance facilities
PMSA need a good air wing to effectively perform its tasks by its own. Such as Anti-Smuggling, Anti-Narcotics, Search and Rescue, Protection of Fisheries, and Natural Resources within EEZ/CPEC.
In emergency in sea DIAL 1331 not 1122 (if you find the network in EEZ)
