Khawaja Safdar Medical College
Ex-minister for restoration of old name
From Our Correspondent
SIALKOT: PML-N leader and former provincial minister Sheikh Ijaz Ahmed has demanded immediate restoration of the old name of Khawaja Safdar Medical College.
Addressing a convention of PML-N workers at Mohallah Islam Park on Sunday, Sheikh Ijaz Ahmed said that there was no dearth of heroes, but the medical college had been named after Khawaja Safdar, the late father of PML-N MNA Khawaja Muhammad Asif, who was made the Majlis-e-Shura chairman for joining hands with the then dictator in 1984.
He said that Khawaja Safdar did nothing for the betterment of the people of Sialkot during his entire political career, especially when he was the Majlis-e-Shura chairman. He added that Kh Safdar had never been a national political figure and had won local bodies election with difficulty.
He said that MNA Khawaja Muhammad Asif had used his influence to honour his father by naming a medical college after him, which was the worst example of favouritism. He was of the view that a majority of citizens had not welcomed the step and demanded the restoration of the old name Sialkot Medical College.
He said that he had no personal grudge against MNA Kh Asif, but wanted to resist his tactics aimed at personal gains. He said that ticket-seekers in the coming elections should not forget that Mian Nawaz Sharif and Mian Shahbaz Sharif were the leaders of the PML-N, not Khawaja Asif. He said that Sialkot was stranglehold of the PML-N and they would make all-out efforts to maintain its status. He hoped that the PML-N would form the government in the Centre and provinces after the next elections. Former deputy mayor Mirza Aurangzeb, Nasir Mehmood advocate, Shazia Elahi Sethi, Rao Jalil advocate, Rashid Ansari, Gulraiz Sheikh and others were also present
