Roadies now in Pakistan
After borrowing several formats from the West, like Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, Celebrity Big Brother, Fear Factor, Got Talent and National Bingo Night, MTV Roadies has officially become Indias first homegrown format to be licensed to other countries, including Pakistan.
Aditya Swamy, senior VP, sales and marketing, MTV, says: In the next four to six weeks, we will have locked all our deals for licensing Roadies with most of the countries that we have been in talks with. Pakistan is one of the first to have approached us for the license to produce Roadies there.
RoadiesThe channel has also received requests from countries in Europe, the Middle East, the rest of Asia and even New Zealand. YouTube and Facebook have made our show popular with the youth from countries that dont even understand Hindi or English. We had thought that wed license Roadies to those countries where the population understands either language. But since the show is not restricted by linguistic barriers, we considered their requests, says Swamy.
He points out that every country that acquires the license will take its own time to conceptualise the show in accordance with its population. Over the next month and a half, there will be more clarity on which licensee will first produce the show.
The on-ground auditions for Roadies Season Eight will flag off in October. Will they be held in Pakistan too? Not this season, says Swamy. Weve got mails from the youth in Pakistan to conduct auditions there because they have closely followed the last seven seasons and wish to participate. Well consider it next year maybe.
