Road to nowhere: the longest expressway India never had

Indians... I wasn't saying India was building coastal highway. I said Pakistan has built 1000 km highway, why hadn't India finished theirs?

what's the min & max speed limits on expressway?

I am not sure about the legal limits.

I have travelled Mumbai - Pune and Chennai-Bangalore as well as the Delhi-Jaipur highway and have travelled upto 130 km per hour.

Your coastal highway goes through barren lands and mountains (as seen in the pics), not fertile, heavily populated area.

It depends from state to state.

In Kerala its needed, but after dark police usually doesn't care.

The coastal highway 600-700 km which you seem to proud off, is a simple two lane highway, such two highways in India are upto 20000-30000 kms.
While four lane highway in India are upto 10000 km. while several expressways are already constructed or are being under construction.

The above said ganga expressway is a eight lane highway unfortunately stuck in political dispute, so will take its own time or probably even get cancelled since SP government is in power in UP.

The failure of the Ganga Expressway offers a snapshot of India's chronic infrastructure woes and a reality check on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's recent promise to speed up more than 200 key projects.

Unveiled more than four years ago, it's all that remains of an ambition to build India's longest expressway, an eight-lane, 1,050-km (650-mile) road that would have run through Uttar Pradesh and connected one of the country's most backward regions to the doorstep of the nation's capital.

But having been in and out of the headlines for years, the project has all but crumbled under the weight of political wrangling, opposition from farmers whose fields would have suffered, and a court order in 2009 stalling construction on environmental grounds.

Officially, the Ganga Expressway still exists on paper, but with SP in power in Uttar Pradesh, it is unlikely to be built, at least for years.

I was reading this the other day it would have been good but alas....

Of course the lamentable layman12345 ,or whatever, chooses to focus on the negatives rather than the positives. India has firm plans to spend $1.2 TRILLION USD in the next 5-8 years on infrastructure so the situation is complety influx.
