a group like BRICS means equality..China may have more wealth than others, but BRICS wasn't created for China's wealth, right??tell me,then what South Africa, whose economy is lesser than all other members, have to contribute???a mere $5 bil will make him a lesser member of this group..
BRICS stands for co-op,not domination..its a good idea to contribute equal amount of money, cause money talks..the member which will provide more money will try to reap benefit more..
and BRICS bank can't be a contender of World Bank..cause only member of this bank will be these 5 countries..it is as simple as that..
Before discussing whether we should adopt equal share policy or other proposal, you should know that BRICS is just a loosely made up group defined by Goldman Sachs to portray emerging markets. We are together saving emerging markets and contemplating more investment opportunities worldwide. Yes, you are right when you mentioned that it's co-op, but you forget that we have totally different interest appeal, South Africa has no such worldwide strategy to implement or global business to take care of, as compared to China or India. A relatively small portion for South Africa is understandable and enough, why should South Africa, with a small economy, pay the check for other countries' bill? China has more global outreach, by pouring more fund to this platform, we can take care of our business. If India has such corresponding outreach in the world, China will never reject your proposal to cut into 5 equal share.
The point here is you forcely drag South Africa to your own side for you own interest. If they take too much foreign exchange reserve from their central bank to contribute to BRICS bank, they will not have enough fund to deal with the risks of rate fluctuations domestically. China is different, because we the the No.1 foreign exchange reserve. We can afford more share. They don't need to contribute too much, this is the key. Power decides our share. If you can contribute more funds by real need, we won't oppose.
Your government carry out policies without any reasonable consideration. We will lose nothing just by cutting our share from 41% to 20%, because we already established good co-op relation with other emerging market, even by foreign currency swap with UK, France and other 20 countries, which is a good way to promote CNY to internationalization. Simultaneously, you will gain nothing just by reducing China's share to the equal base.
