Lately I've tinkered with the thought that why the west has an immigration policy to start with ? is it past guilt of colonisation ? a throwback to their past where they were 'masters' and the 'mud folk' their subjects ? immigration does give a leg up to the west to browbeat 'others' on their openness and also in case of britain , they give 'refuge' to every type to political scum , our Altaf Bhai is one example , Barhamdagh Bugti in Switzerland is another , there are examples from African countries also , examples of dissidents from Russia , China and even the India etc are there also.
Is 'immigration' a double edged blade that the west plays with , it can 'cut' others but it can also 'cut' the one who wields it!
Its not that hard to understand that even sometimes brothers and sisters born to the same parents , living under the same roof , brought up the same way , the sound of their tongue the colour of their skin all being same STILL they will not get along well with each other many a time then how can it be assumed that people with different beliefs , different norms , traditions , appearances etc will just come together and live happily ever after ? surely this could not be lost on the people who made one of the world's largest empires over which the sun would not set ( though it now barely shines over it .. with all the rain .. lol ) and are by far the most cunning people living on earth
I might create a second thread but some discussion on why west has allowed mass immigration in the first place and also the political asylums etc that they give
