Rising foreign debt and balance of payments deficit: Does Bangladesh need to worry?

What manners are you talking about here? It is you who should learn them. Why are you comparing the technological society of Europe with a beggar country Bangladesh?

What answer do you escpect from others? except Kothay Tal gach ar kothay BAL gach.

Stop spouting the 4 billion interest nonsense!

Four billion interest means a debt of at least 150 billion.

As I said, I have a 230k mortgage and pay 1.9% interest.

I have a rental property with interest only mortgage and that is on 2.5%.

Stop spouting illiterate nonsense!!!!

We had a very low base to start with.

Sure, but you have overtaken many countries which were better off than you. You have already overtaken India, which was substantially ahead of you a decade. Granted India isnt a developed country but that is something to be proud of, isn't it?

And most of our growth was fuelled by public borrowing and spending.

Is there any data to suggest that the debt ratios of BD are worse than others. For instance, India and Pak debt/GDP is close to 90%. BD is less than 50% or thereabouts. So what is the basis for you to say that BD's growth has been based on borrowings?

Regards

That's all true - but some people don't want to hear truth. It's more enjoyable to mudsling regardless.

Credit to Indians, they are very optimistic and defensive about their country in general.

Your comprehension is weak and your arguments have no point. I'm not going to argue with an imbecile.

If you have any facts state them. Otherwise stop ranting.

Unfortunately this is a person who likes to see life as a glass half empty rather than glass half full.

He thinks that BD must be doing badly as not everything is "perfect" according to his standards.

Complains about corruption but does not realise that there is a lot of corruption in even advanced societies like the UK.

Thank you for this post but I suspect it will make no difference to his negative mindset.

What facts do you want me to submit to Your Stupid Honor? How many millions are needed? Better learn about the National Economic Development process.

Don't use my line on me - you cannot wake one who is pretending to sleep.

So no point trying to speak logic to you.

Except RMG Bangladesh doesn't have any industries to talk about. So our growth came from public borrowing and spending.

Except RMG

That itself is a USD 50 billion industry! Plus think of the multiplier that wages paid out to textile worker creates. I can only envy that in India!

So our growth came from public borrowing and spending.

Every country's growth comes from public borrowing and spending. What is unique about BD? Do you have any data to show that BD is uniquely heavily leveraged?

Looks impressive on paper. But, we have to buy cotton, related chemicals and machinery from outside using USD. We don't even own any intellectual properties related to garments sector as we don't invest on R&D. Only thing we add is cheap labour.

Im not talking about other country. Bangladeshs growth comes from public borrowing and spending. We don't have the industrial capacity to have sustainable 5-6 percent growth.

BTW, Im not against public spending.
